I like the occasional color strip that extends into the black or white sash. This looks like a complicated pattern...can you share the source? Are these appliqued perhaps? Love these colors.

I believe the pattern is a modification of a Craftsy Block of the month, perhaps February or March 2012. That means, quilters, that the pattern is free!

I did applique the strip that extends into the sashing for some variety.

Thanks! The border fabric was bought at Joann's last year. When I spotted it I knew it was the perfect one.

Presented my niece with her quilt and she absolutely loved it! She was also thrilled with the flannel backing since she is always cold. Made my heart smile that I was able to achieve a non-traditional quilt as requested. Got extra hugs and kisses too!! :)
