Thank you everyone for all the lovely things you have written - it will encourage me to get on with my latest project!

Special greetings to my nearest neighbour, Quilting Addict in North Wales!

Susan Margaret - I'd never seen the term "hand crank" until I read American websites and I think I'll stick to calling them hand machines.

Donna C - thanks for the suggestion for a video. I will have to lean my head to one side so my husband can get a view over my shoulder. The out-takes could well end up longer than the actual video. We'll cut out any cussing for family viewing, but I'm sure we'll rise to the challenge!

Bernie Brooks - the applique in the centre is my own design. Feel free to make your own version, I'd be delighted. The stems are made from bias binding folded in half.

Billy - you've got it the wrong way round. We haven't got lots of hand machines because our houses are so small, you have got lots of treadles because your houses are so enormous. I'm a great fan of Bonnie Hunter, but the instructions on her site for making a border for a quilt are hilarious. She tells you to lay the quilt out on the floor. Yes, and what are we supposed to do with the furniture? Time for a little rant. You remember the film "How Green was My Valley" and the Hollywood version of a miner's house in South Wales, in reality tiny cramped rooms, but in Hollywood several acres of floorspace? Quilting Addict will know what I'm on about.

Thanks again for all your comments. I'm hoping to get some more pictures taken this weekend of the sewing machines. It's great that you can all enjoy them too!
