My mom turned 88 today. I took her several dish gardens to enjoy and keep healthy. Here is a picture of the top of the quilt I made for her last year on her birthday. She loves anything Asian. I keep taking it out of the closet and she keeps having them put it back to keep it nice. So this year she got plants!

I even had a LAQ finish it.

Tell her you'll make her another one if anything happens to this one with use! :)

that's my mom. My aunt made her one for her wedding, 19 years ago, (before my mom got into quilting) and a little pillow to match it, and the pillow is on the bed, the quilt has never been. She says it's because the other quilt she got, a double wedding ring that someone bought somewhere, was on her bed and it got a little stained and tore in a few places. I pulled out the quilt and didn't notice til she pointed it out. I got out my hoop and a needle and stitched it back up. But the quilt she gets for christmas this year is going on her bed whether she likes it or not because it is becoming a pain in the butt to hand quilt.

But the quilt is beautiful by the way! Tell her how happy it would make you if she used it, maybe she'll use it once in a while

Very pretty. I am using some of the same geisha fabric in a quilt I am making as well, only mine was predominently red and gold in color. It is a beautiful fabric and you did a great job displaying it in your mom's quilt.

Your quilt is very lovely, good use of the pieces! My mom liked to 'save everything for good', which I think meant after the kids left.

Kids are gone, grandkids are in their 30s and the great-grand kids sit and stare. Still in the closet!

Beautiful quilt....it's sweet she keeps it as a treasure, but I understand perfectly how you feel:).

Beautiful quilt! I really like quilts with strong diagonals.

My mother passed away 5 years ago but she loved Asian items too...her favorite thing to do was to go to Chinatown in Philadelphia, PA with her grandson - they would shop and eat their favorite Asian foods. So I made her a beautiful quilt from Asian fabrics...where was it everytime I looked for it? In the closet so it would not "get dirty." It was the perfect size for her to cover up with while watching TV or reading but she never used it. I gave it to one of her granddaughters after she passed away. (Do not know if she uses is or not since she moved to Tulsa not long after but I hope she does!)

very very very pretty. I'm taking my favorite quilt with me when I go :-)

debcavan 07-17-2011 08:58 AM

My Mother won't use the quilt I gave her either. She keeps those good tops for good even though she is 101. She will never wear out the clothes she has. It is how they were taught.

I think this one will go to my SIL. She quilts also and loves Asian like my mom. I think she would get the most pleasure out of it. And since I have the final decision on disposition of mom's things, that's what I will likely do. She has 4 daughters and 2 granddaughters so it will always have a home!

What a great quilt!!! Too bad she wont use it. You should know that she must really love it since she is soooo protrective of it!!! I can understand the plants though lol Maybe you could at least have it hung up for her so she can at least look at it to enjoy.
