Quilt for my mother-in-law
1 Attachment(s)
I won the grand prize when it comes to mothers-in-law. She's amazing, and I love her to pieces. When we were visiting her earlier this year, she took me to one of the LQS in her area, and we had a lovely time oohing and aahing over the fabric. She bought me some bits and pieces, and I thought I'd make her a quilt out of what she bought for me. This is what I came up with, using a charm pack of Brenda Riddle's "Amberley" collection (which we both thought was delightful) for the hearts; and some fabric we found among the remnants for the sashing. I supplemented with matching fabrics for the cornerstones, border and binding, and found some gorgeous flannel to use as backing, which is a perfect match (but I can't get that photo to upload, so you'll have to take my word for it! :) )
Even though it's only a lap quilt, having to quilt it with a walking foot on my little DSM was a bit daunting, but I was able to manage it. (I haven't mastered FMQ yet.) I used serpentine stitching for all the quilting, and I really love how it adds to the antique, wrinkly look of the quilt. She's coming to visit us in a few days, and I plan to give it to her then. I hope she likes it! |
She will love it! It is so nice....and how wonderful that you have such a great relationship with your MIL.

It's a pretty quilt for your MIL. I'm sure the fond memories of shopping for the fabrics make it even more special. Enjoy your visit!

She is going to love it. I had that kind of MIL and now 2 DILs that I adore and they love me too!💕

Love the serpentine stitching. Just discovered it myself. It's my new favorite.

The hearts are perfect your stitching and quilting are great! The soft background and border is perfect! I am so sure your MIL will love it to the moon and back. It sounds like she supports your love of quilting. Very Very pretty quilt.

What a lovely project and sentiments! I too have a wonderful mother-in-law, and a great daughter-in-law too!
I did my first quilt with the serpentine stitch last year, my old vintage machine didn't have the option. I think it's a great solution for any quilt on a grid -- which is most of them. One of my Tuesday group ladies does a lot of preemie and children's donation projects and almost always uses serpentine stitch, and they all look good. |
Oh, you should be very proud of yourself as your quilt turned out very nice and I am sure it will be cherish by your MIL.
|
What a beautiful and soft tribute to your MIL. She got a winner too. Love the soft colors and the serpentine quilting just gives it a vintage crinkly look she will love.
