Without knowing any history to the picture, I didn't think of it as a sad picture, just as a dog sleeping on his favorite toy, or his master's toy because it smelled like his favorite person. We had a blonde cocker that would sleep with his head in my DH's shoes when he was a puppy. He didn't chew them, my sister who was much more dog savvy than I said he was just looking for a familiar smell to fall asleep like he did when with his mom, brothers and sisters. As our dog got older if my DH put his feet on the floor eventually Cuddles would lay his head on his foot. (They were the only 2 makes in the house, must have thought they needed to stick together, because Cuddles loved everybody.)

Forgotten Dogs of the Fifth Ward operates here in Houston, TX. I remember seeing that picture on the news. Let me see if I can find what happened to the dog.

I found one story that they had found the man who cared for the dog. The dog got out and he hadn't been able to find him/her. I wondered about that because the dog appeared well fed and didn't seem to have any skin issues going on which pits that aren't being cared for often have. I couldn't find anymore but I'm hoping that Forgotten Dogs was successful in helping the dog out.

On a high note, the gentleman that was caring for the dog does small scale dog rescue so Forgotten Dogs is now working with him to help him place his dogs. :)

Debbie, Thank you so much for posting the steps of how you make one of these quilts. It is a fascinating process and you do it well. Love the whole idea of being able to transform an interesting photo into a quilt of some sort. And how nice of you to be making one of these with the dog cuddling a stuffed toy for charity. I will be interested in seeing how this one turns out.

What a lovely quilt you made. Hope that this quilt will raise the needed funds for these dogs.
