This just gives you an idea of what this quilt is going to look like. I love the color combinations. It's the Orion Star quilt from Thangles. I discovered I'm a whole lot less than fond of Thangles and used a thing called a Gizmo to mark the HSTs. Each picture is four of the blocks just laid together. When I put the blocks together I'll try not to put two of the same fabrics together.

Pretty! I would call this = "fruit salad" because there is lemon, orange, tangerine, and mango with a hint of berry!

very stricking color combo's, love them.
It is so great to see what others combine for colors, and you know you would think to chose those colors without first seeing them. Thank you for sharing :-) |
this looks like the Hunters star pattern? A friend of mine showed me the instructins and how she was taught in a class... I made one block as a sample to see if I could do and if I would be interested in makin something larger. I liked how it came together. So my thought is to pick out a better color combo then I did the sample with and maybe just make a wall hanging and then save it after completion with some other things that I make over he spring and summer for Christmas gifts or donations to one of the Animal Rescues that runs little auctions to earn money.
Your colors are stunning. And it really adds a lot of happiness in the way you use colors. blue |
This is going to be one beautiful quilt, hurry up and finish it so I can see it.

Hi,
I am working on the same pattern and having trouble with thangles too. What is a Gismo, how do you use it and were do you get it? I will post a picture of some of my blocks if you like. I am using 1930's type fabric. Sharon |
Here's a link to see what it looks like, rather than me trying to describe it.
http://www.softexpressions.com/softw...ons/QckQrt.php I got mine in two sizes at a quilt show years ago. That's what I used for "my experiment" that I posted in the pic thread. It's also called a quick quarter. |
I so agree with the title Fruit Salad. here in the UK we have some sweets called Fruit Salad and they are those coulour exactly! They are very yummy sweeties too! Absolutely adore the colours and can't wait to see the finished quilt. Thanks for sharing.

I am using 1930's type fabric. Sharon Let me see if I can explain this. For regular HSTs you cut squares 7/8ths of an inch bigger than your finished size. With Thangles you cut strips 1/2 inch wider than your finished size and strips the length of the papers. With the Gizmo you cut strips 1/2 inch wider and then cut rectangles 1 inch longer and use the Gizmo to mark your stitching lines. The measurement for the length of the Thangles strips and the same number of rectangles for the Gizmo HSTs is the same. |
