quilt in process for cancer victim

This is the quilt top (before borders) that I am making for the son of a dear friend. The boy has cancer. After quilting, we will ask the boy's teammates to sign the white pieces.

The pattern is based on one I saw here. Unfortunately, I forgot to record the member's name. Hers had one theme fabric, which is floral. If one of you knows who I am talking about, I would like to give her credit and thank her. I needed to go to a much larger block size (29") because of the scale of the prints.

How thoughtful of you, very nice and I am sure he will love it.

My family and his are closely linked, so DH and I felt it was very important to do this, in addition to the comfort quilt from my guild. The borders will be one of red and one of black.

I like that pattern for a guy quilt. You said you used 29 inch blocks. I am having a hard time determining what the block is. Would you please show me the block? Is it the large center print with the border? If yes, then the rest would be considered as sashing. Am I right in my assumptions?

Very good job. I like it. I take it the boy plays football. You can still make a label with the boy's name on it. You certainly did not goof up. This quilt looks amazing.

Quilt for a cancer patient

Okay, footballs! With these old eyes they looked like spools of thread. I thought does he sew too? Then it dawned on me. Well, at least I can still laugh at myself. He will love it as well as the sentiment behind it.

Such a nice thing that you are doing. Hopefully, treatments will go well for him, and I'm sure this quilt will bring a smile to his face.

Hope he beats the cancer and your quilt will be so encouraging.

The quilt top is 2 block wide. There are 4 framed segments in each block, with the white whirligig in the center. I am not sure that the term 'sashing' quite applies to this pattern. I am adding a picture of one block.
I am making this to encourage him. I heard from his father that the boy is responding to chemo better than the team expected.
Now that you mention it, the footballs DO look like spools of thread in the picture.
