The Para is going to cry her eyes out. Everytime she looks at it she will think of those students she worked so hard with. A wonderful gift from your sister and a fantastic job you did.

I think a para is like a teacher's assistant. My sil bought that border fabric at Joanne's. It is pretty, she let me kept the leftovers.

What a great memory quilt. Can't you picture taking a hand print every 6-12 months starting with a newborn's handprint and continuing until married? Then, as setting blocks, you could use photos to go with the annual hand prints.

GramaLaura 06-24-2011 11:07 AM

Nice work!!! This will be a cherished quilt :-D

Jennifer22206 06-24-2011 11:28 AM

that's beautiful, and what a lovely gift! I really hope she was surprised and I know she'll love it.

Yes, here in NH, classroom/student aides are called Paraprofessionals. Kind of insulting, I think since it implies you are only half professional. And trust me, most of the ones I know work very, very hard and are very dedicated. I think they are called Educational Technicians in Maine.
That is a lovely quilt - really classy while still featuring the children's participation.

Para-educator helps the teacher help the children. I think they use to call them teacher's aide or teacher's assistant. Different parts of the US have different names. They work hard to help both the teacher and the children.
