Quilt Rug
2 Attachment(s)
Hello my quilting friends, I have a new project to share. I was contemplating on a nice soft rug for my quilt and doll room. I didn't like what I found and what I did like, I didn't like the price lol. Then a thought occurred to me. I make coffee mugs, dinner mats, why can't I made a quilt rug? Well come to find out, the whole web was also thinking and doing it lol.
I had this lovely piece of flannel that looked like it was hand died and it was perfect. I used a real high loft poly batting and another flannel backing. I had just got the new Bella Sedere, ( here is a pic if you want to see it.) https://shop.martellinotions.com/lon...lla-serde.html and thought this would be good to try on it. I did some big wavy quilting on it and as you can see it came out real puffy and just what I wanted....so make a rug for your feet. I put a piece of rug grip under it and it works just fine. A note on this machine/ I do have a long arm Gammil. what I like about this machine, is that you can sit down and move the fabric just as if you were on your regular machine and you can do intricate stuff. I find that I have a different control and my back and hands were not stressed. I love this machine. |
Pretty and comfy too!

Great innovation ... and oh my, I love those colours!
Because I cannot find a washable mat for my bathroom, in the size and colours that I want, I have been contemplating for quite a while now, to make one. However, I have had a huge concern re potential slippage dangers. Maybe you can tell me more from your experience in making this one. Sorry, but I am not familiar with "rug grip". Would it hold a cloth floor quilt against a vinyl floor? Or is it for holding the cloth on top of a carpet that is already there? Did you attach the rug grip to the quilt? Or is it laying separately. Or another possibility ... I have heard of a product that you "paint" on the back of a floor quilt. Does anyone know the name of it? Product name? Brand name? Or even better, where I might purchase it? THANK YOU!! |

The visual is a big help, as it gives me product info and some company names to track down. Has anyone used it? Does it provide a good anti-slip solution? |
What a clever idea! It looks so cozy.
|
very nice!!!

When I could not find rug grip I used the plastic rough lining for kitchen cabinets in our sail boat. Keeps dishes from slipping. Sorry, don't remember the brand name, but purchased at home centers.

WOW so pretty I would be afraid to walk on it.
|
Great idea! Beautiful fabric choices!
|
Nicely done!

Very pretty and how creative you are. You did a great job.

What a great project...congrats on your new toy. It looks like it has quite a large throat space.
|
rosy, where have you been? I guess I missed you posts lately. Nice thinking on the rug.
|
great idea. your colors are great.

Non-skid shelving works also. Walmart sells non-skid for rugs in their home dept. Velcro on the bottom of the rug and top of the non-skid would help keep the rug and non-skid backing in place with each other.
|
RV and camper sales businesses also carry this.

Nice job. I've made a number of cloth rugs. My daughter asked for one when she gave birth so she could put my grandson on the floor. I made a circular one with a double cotton batting and it's been in constant use for 6 years. I've also made numerous bath rugs. They are fun to make....again a double cotton batting and I can make them to match the decor.

Very nice! I have been going to make one also but I didn't know if I would want to walk on it! lol I guess if my mind was set as a rug I would be ok! It certainly would feel good on your bare feet. Great job!

Great idea! What I do with rugs that don't have the non-slip backing, and are washable as I would imagine a "quilt rug" would be, is to use washable Elmer's school glue. Makes for a little extra work when you need to wash it, but it will stay put without slipping. I even use it on my hardwood floors without damaging the finish. What I do is squeeze the glue onto the back of the rug after I've washed the floor, let it dry to tacky and place it where I want it. It will dry stuck to where it's placed! To remove for washing: (this is the harder, more time consuming part): using a wet towel, lift a corner of your rug, and moisten underneath the rug. It will come loose. Wipe again when the rug is lifted with clear water and dry the area with another dry towel. Wash your rug and repeat the process with the clean rug when you lay it again. I wouldn't do this if placing the rug over carpet.

another idea, if you can't find the rug grip, is to just use an old rug that still grips and lay it on top of that. Another idea would be to use those baby grips that come on the bottom of their PJ's, I think you can buy it by the yard.

It was so fun to actually do something quilty again. This machine is a longarm, only in a different way.
