Thanks everyone. Digitizing this kind of redwork is not very difficult... it's just a matter of knowing if you need to right-click or left-click. I now have Mater, Lightning McQueen one more minion and a smurf done and stitched out. I've learned a couple of rules which minimizes long jumps:
1. Try to make the machine stitch out everything in a logical order. I usually try to digitize in the right order from the beginning.
2. Check starting and stopping point of each section. Sometimes my program changes the direction of stitching of a section.
3. If it is a small jump, consider travel stitching instead.
4. For those jumps that you really need. Do them last so that your machine doesn't stitch over the thread or risk getting caught in it.

The minion looks awesome! Don't think I'd change it. Just cope with the stitches. You'll get better at this as you do more of it.
