Quilted bag

The pattern and method were from a Craftsy video, Quilt-as-you-go Bag by Tara Rebman. I departed a little from her instructions, but it's a very good class, and I'm glad I signed up for it. Thanks for looking.

Nanny's dollface, you will be pleasantly surprised at how easy it is to do a zipper this way. I used washable school glue to baste it where I wanted it, under the opening, which is faced with the top half of the pocket. I'm not good at explaining it, but trust me, it's easy. Thanks, you all, for the positive response. This was a lot of fun. |
That's a great bag. Your fabric choices are fabulous!

Great bag. It is really stylish.

I have to find that class. I love yours!!!!!! You did a great job.
I like fabric bags because they are lighter to carry than leather. |
Beautiful quilted bag. The fabrics you chose are lovely...esp. like the lining and the details inside (pockets and zipper)
|
I love your bag and look forward to taking that class.

Beautiful bag - love the fabrics, style, detailing, and quilting. I will definitely have to look into that class.

I love the bag, and your creative choices! Have you done bags before? I'm so intimidated to try... I don't sew clothes and things like interfacing, buttons, and zippers are daunting to me! I'm longing to try something simple though.

I love your bag! The fabric choices make it really interesting and beautiful.

I love your bag. I’ve been thinking of make some bags, I find I get really gung-ho once I make one and then I want to make more. I find I can be really creative making bags than quilts. Your bag is a work of art.

I love that you used oriental, American (British) floral and a modern geo and yet it looks cohesive in the finished bag. I love that you put the binding on the flap, it will make it much more durable. Wonderful end product to your class!

When I saw the Craftsy version of this bag, I was not impressed. But now that I see your beautiful version of it, I now want to make one for myself. Your choice of fabrics is "Right On" ... just lovely. And your workmanship is A+. Thank you for posting.

Thank you! I am overwhelmed by the positive response to this project!
As for fabric choice, I followed the teacher's guidelines about selecting things that don't ordinarily go together. Her bags are eclectic in very much the same way, and that was one of the reasons I signed up for the class. The bag would be great for carrying around a project, but in general I feel awkward with a purse this big because I'm short. I would feel a little like a kid playing dress-up with mommy's purse. I knew this before I started, but there's no accounting for the urge to create sometimes. So I'm working on another one that's narrower and a little longer. This time I hope to do a better job of matching the side seams. I nailed one of them on this bag, but missed the other by a quarter inch, and didn't even notice until it was trimmed and too late to fix. The other thing I plan to do differently is make the flap a simple rectangle. That way I can bind it without the strain. Showing the embarrassing mismatch just because the donkey is my favorite bit among the 3 dozen fabrics. |
Great bag, would be great when shopping making small purchases to use instead of plastic bags.
