Quilted beach bag
3 Attachment(s)
I decided to make a beach bag ready for our holiday at Easter. I used cotton duck canvas for the base and the lining and used scraps of fabric to accent. I fused on some fleece and did simple straight line quilting. I appliqued the octopus using some batik fabric I had.
I am quite early on in my bag making days but am pleased with this. |
Looks good to me!

Cute tote!
A lovely bag. Well done with the appliqué too, it does look wonderful with the tentacles going over the side seam. Love the colour choice too.
Very nice. I still am getting up the courage to do a bag.
Nice job on the bag, have never tackled one, maybe someday..
It's a great beach bag. Love the octopus!
Wow, very nice beach bag!!!
nicely done
Oh that is adorable!!
I love it! I like making bags too. Did you satin stitch the octopus or is it straight line stitching? I would love a copy of the octopus, I'm sure I could make the tote. Anyway, you did a fabulous job!
Thanks everyone! Toogie it is straight line stitch a few times round to give it a sketchy/doodle look. I have sent you a PM as well
Well to me you did a wonderful job. I have made some bags but not with the snap you used. Are they hard to put in? Did you have to use a different needle because of the thickness of the fabric? Love everything about this bag. BrendaK

Great job on the bag. Looks like it's ready for a day at the beach with you. The octopus really adds the finishing touch .
Great tote! love your octopus - did you have a pattern for it or do it free hand?
Wow! That is so cute. I just showed it to Jim and he likes it too.
What a gorgeous bag, I love it :)
Very cool! It will be so much fun to use.
Great colors. Beautiful bag. Design is perfect for a beach bag.
Love the bag!
Brenda K - the snaps are very easy and no sewing needed. Each side has prongs and a washer so you make a tiny snip in the lining fabric and trap the fabric between the two parts. I also reinforced that part of the fabric with a scrap of fusible fleece. I bought a job lot cheap from China on the website named after a long river.
costumegirl the octopus was part of the pattern but I adapted it slightly |
Cute bag! Perfect for beach days!
STunning! I love the curving tentacles of your octopus. They are fascinating creatures.
Love that bag; so very cute.
Love it. It will come in handy. I love making bags.
Great bag! Really love the way the octopus wraps around the bag. Octopuses are so smart. I hope this one doesn't find a way to get away from that bag.
Very nice beach bag and especially love the colors of your fabrics. Great job on the octopus.
