I made this for a silent auction at our guild show in May. Spent a lot of time trying to find the right fabric for the frame.

That is stunning!! How did you add the border to the edges of the Ada fabric? I've done some great pieces, I'd love to incorporate them into a quilt.

leatheflea 08-21-2012 10:17 AM

The border fabric definately makes the quilt! Nice work!

Jingle 08-21-2012 10:58 AM

Absolutely gorgeous, love it all, especially your cross stitch picture. Perfect frame.

I don't trim the Aida fabric. I draw a line a quarter inch from where I want the border to be. Lay the border fabric face down and sew my quarter inch seam. If I want mitered borders, I sew the border pieces together leaving a 1/4" unsewn on the inner seam. Then I press in under and machine applique the border on.
I have found that if I trim the Aida fabric, it tends to fray and pull out of the seam. I usually 2-4 inches of extra on each side. Once I quilt it, it won't pull out.

That is just beautiful! Wow, that's alot of work to donate for your siletn auction. There are a lot of hours put into counted cross stitch but the end result is just too cool.

Beautiful, Love the fabric choice.

ontheriver 08-22-2012 05:33 AM

So beautiful, I love it. I think I have that cross stitch pattern around somewhere. My mom loves to cross stitch. When she finishes one I always put borders on it for her and do some quilting. She has sold quite a few at various craft shows and I have several hanging around the house.

It was in a Paula Vaughan book with a quilt for each month.

Sewcrazy12 08-22-2012 06:49 AM

I want to do one. That is so lovely. Just love it. I have to try it.

dungeonquilter 08-22-2012 06:58 AM

I love quilting them. I can't afford to have them framed, but actually prefer the look of them when quilted. One of these days I will get some better lighting so I can do more. As I age, the lights seem to get dimmer. LOL

Oh, so very pretty! I love cross-stitch! :)
