quilted journal covers
2 Attachment(s)
Here are some journal covers I made. I free motion quilted my fabric before sewing my covers.I often quilt my own fabric for my projects.

Oh my goodness.....they are exquisite!
Very pretty, and what a great idea for gifts.
They are beautiful! It never occurred to me to quilt the fabric before the embroidery, will have to give that a try.
Cute covers!
Your book cover are fabulous. I'm just starting out with the machine embroidery, so your example of quilting beforehand will definitely come in handy. It would not have occurred to me otherwise!
beautifully done
They are lovely, would make someone a beautiful gift. I like the quilting and then the embroidery, gives a lovely lush look.
Thank you for showing us your lovely journals! I like the loop that holds the pen on the outside of the journal. I will have to try your idea of quilting the fabric and then adding an embroidery design. My fav. is the Christmas book. I think it would be a great gift to keep track of your gift list.
Those are wonderful...my birthday is in June. : )
Thank your or sharing your creative work. |
So pretty. Love those.
Very lovely! What kind of 'book' do you use for these journals?
How wonderful! EAch one is a little gem. I especially like that you included a loop for a pen.
These were all gifts, some just because gifts and the Christmas book you like I enclosed a poem with it. In a nutshell, it says to write down things that meant the most to you that Christmas, so you could look back and relive each wonderful experience.

I use a very expensive book for these journals. I get them from Walmart or the Dollar General and pay about $1-:DThey are the black and white composition books.

Like I said earlier, I usually quilt my own fabrics for purses I make, little cosmetic bags, changing pads, etc. I'm glad I showed you, because I like to give and receive new ideas, too.

Beautiful covers!!!

Your journals are beautiful. Make great gifts.
WOW! Those covers are all beautiful. You do such a great job on them and what a wonderful gift for others.
I love how you "signed" your work with embroidery matching the background color. It's on the front, like an artist, but not too obtrusive.
Those are all so pretty. I do use journals. Those make very nice gifts.
Beautiful journal covers. Great work.

I just spoke with a lady tonight that I gave a journal to, in 2017.She has told me before, how much she has enjoyed writing in her journal. She said she has almost completed her 'book' and will replace it with another soon. I love this lady and I know she cares for me. I wanted her to leave her family something of herself when she is gone. At that time she was diagnosed with cancer, but she must have more work to do here, as the Lord has not called her home. Although hers was not quilted, because it was one of the first I made, I wanted to show you the difference. She loves it but I much rather the quilted ones, don't you?

I TRY to remember to sign my work, but don't always succeed. I don't want it to jump at you but I do like it to be there. I had made some crossbody bags (I may show these later but the pics all have to be re-sized for here)anyway, the bags were a style similar to Vera Bradley. Our librarian was the one suggested I needed to 'label/sign' my work. I must have made 10 or more and sold them all but one. Thank you for noticing.

Love all your journal covers, thank you for sharing. |
Oh my! What a gorgeous group of journal covers! Love them all.
You have made a wonderful keepsake!!! Love your fabric covers!!!
Nice! I especially love The Christmas Book! What a great idea. And what great gifts these would make.

I sometimes make my own pattern, as in this journal and my bags/purses. However just google 'how to sew a book cover'. I'm sure you can find enough info to move forward and make your own. I would suggest that you cut your piece to quilt larger than what you need and then cut to size you need AFTER you quilt. Good luck-if I had the time I'd write a pdf tutorial but don't have time right now. Good Luck!-Toogie
