Quilted with my Embroidery Machine

1 Attachment(s)
Used scrap batik fabrics and mixed some flower print cotton to sew up a quick simple pattern twin size for my Dgd's 14th b-day.

I'm overwhelmed taking care of my elderly DM. I do not have a clear mind to plan or make color choices. By the grace of God and the love I have for my first born d-gd I was able to sew up and finish her scrapy quilt in 2 weeks. I'm so proud of the quilting on my Viking T50 embroidery machine. Feel like I cheated cause it was sew easy to accomplish!

Sharing pic here.

Very pretty. Don't mention it and no one would be the wiser.
So, does this machine makes different quilting designs too?

Altairss 11-05-2015 12:45 PM

Oh that's lovely!

Yes. I purchased this stitch for $1 and it fit the block so I stuck with that one. Did use a smaller on with a dragonfly in a pond on the bottom and top half blocks.

quiltingcandy 11-05-2015 12:52 PM

My machine does that - i really need to try it, your quilt came out fantastic!

Beautiful, and no one will know unless you tell. Lol

FabQuilter 11-05-2015 02:30 PM

The goal is to FMQ my own but I'm not there yet. Still practicing though. May do a combination. The good thing is that one can custom machine quilt on the embroidery machine using various stitches depending on the quilt pattern.
Great to have the option.

red-warrior 11-05-2015 02:47 PM

Bet she loves it!

suern3 11-05-2015 02:50 PM

Beautiful quilt and quilting! Thanks for the pictures, I had no idea you could do this with an embroidery machine. Plus I would have that it would have to be quilt as you go. Excellent!

Bluebonnets 11-05-2015 03:01 PM

That's beautiful!!

Cam's gram 11-05-2015 03:46 PM

Great quilt and quilting!

mucky 11-05-2015 04:14 PM

It certainly doesn't look quick and easy

Using technology intelligently is not cheating, it is being smart. Your quilt looks really good.

lynnie 11-05-2015 07:44 PM

great quilt.

Grandma Peg 11-05-2015 08:01 PM

Looks great! Have fun doing more quilts.

SewExtremeSeams 11-05-2015 09:01 PM

God bless you as you take care of your elderly mother. That quilt you have made for the newest generation is very pretty. The cycle continues...

So true. It is shocking how my mom's health is deteriorating in a natural way as it is age related and likewise shocking how my 14 year old gd is transforming into a lovely young lady before my eyes.

SheriR 11-07-2015 03:41 AM

Your quilt is so pretty. And I'm loving you're quilting method too. Can I ask where you purchased your quilting pattern? I need to try this!

kacklebird 11-07-2015 04:14 AM

Your quilt is beautiful :)

katydidkg 11-07-2015 04:33 AM

Love your quilt! I need to branch out with my embroidery machine and try the quilt motifs on blocks.

copycat 11-07-2015 04:39 AM

Your quilt looks fabulous! Do you embroider the quilt blocks after the quilt sandwhich is made?

Geri B 11-07-2015 05:37 AM

Great job, but one question...are you going to do any SID between the blocks? Seems like a lot of unquilted areas, but maybe because of the angle of the pic....

Sharoncignoni 11-07-2015 06:32 AM

I used my Babyloc embroidery machine to quilt many quilts, you can purchase quilt patterns made for your machine. Great job and I wouldn't give your secret out.

annette1952 11-07-2015 08:18 AM

Very nice! I wished my embroidery machine would stitch bigger designs. I would quilt with it too.

luvrazz 11-07-2015 09:43 AM

Where did you get the patterns from? They are lovely.

jamsbuying 11-07-2015 10:06 AM

Great quilting...it is not cheating...even longarm machines can use computers!

MargeD 11-07-2015 11:31 AM

Don't call it "cheating", call it a beautifully quilted quilt.

Thank you.

Pattern is titled Feather Quilting Wavy Leaf (single run) D7439 purchase from Embroidery Library http://www.emblibrary.com/EL/search.aspx?search=D7439

I did specify what embroidery machine/software I use.

Recommend checking out this link for tips on quilting on the embroidery machine.

Yes I sandwiched the quilt first then decided to quilt on the embroidery machine.
I used the safety pins method. Removed pins after I hooped.

This link offers great tips

You did not cheat. Rather you made a wise decision to use the tools you had at hand. I think the quilting is gorgeous. Please realize that this is no different than any longarmer who uses a computer-controlled design does. Would you think of FMQ done with a stitch regulator as "cheating"? IMHO it boils down to the same thing as construction done with "hand tools vs power tools" (time, accuracy, and efficiency).

QUILTNMO 11-08-2015 08:03 AM

twinkie 11-11-2015 04:43 AM

I didn't know you could do this with an embroidery machine either. Great job.
