Quilted Placemats

10 Attachment(s)
I have a huge container of orphan blocks and bits and pieces left over from quilts so instead of throwing them out, I am making them into placemats. The blocks are extras made for a quilt (I never follow a pattern or really work out how many I actually need) or are 'tester' blocks to see if I like the block and want to make it into a quilt. Others are made from left over rows made for borders, etc. So far I have made over 30 and I haven't really made much of a dent in the orphan block stash.

Most of these are foundation pieced and I have joined them together, used scraps of wadding and fabric scraps for backing and binding.

I will most likely sell them or donate them to an aged care centre.

Lynnie, these are wonderful. Very creative to use your orphans this way..

Gret placemats! I have a box of orphans that I should turn into placemats. I keep thinking I could make them into a quilt but they do not play well together every time I get them out.

I like them all, but especially the storm at sea. Whether placemats or scrap quilts, don't toss those orphans.

A very creative way to use your orphans.

Those are really lovely. They could also be used as mini-quilts to brighten up some spaces in a nursing home or some other setting.

Great idea! Really pretty! I have used some of my orphans for pot holders and use them under plants ..
