Can you just "stitch in the ditch"?

azdesertrat 09-28-2007 04:25 PM

you can make it really simple and do "stitch in the ditch" sewing along certain line in the quilt ,maybe all the dark purple lines,a simple straight stitch,it can be as simple or as complicated as you want

I think it would look good with a loose, swirly freemotion quilting - curves to contrast the straight lines of the piecing.

I'm with Cathe...I think swirly free motion would be pretty. Is there anything that she aboslutely loves, like flowers, lighthouses, etc. or something that you could get a template for and quilt that design?

live2teach 09-28-2007 06:47 PM

I am soo sorry, how rude of me! I LOVE your quilt, your colors are gorgeous!

Beautiful quilt!! I agree with curvy/swirl designs, and I'd do it on the diagonal (with the color scheme).

A swirling design is so right for this rail fence quilt... A year ago I made one of those and it was a swirling design the quilting lady suggested for it... and did it... looks lovely.... you have done a good job... great looking quilt.

Lovely quilt, how about turkey tracks. I love the look of it :D :D :D :D :D

What a beautiful quilt!! I'm like the others, I think the swirl would be a complement to the quilting! You've done a beautiful job!

I'd vote for curvy/swirly as well, and I like Carla's idea of doing that on the diagonal. That's such a beautiful quilt sewsweet!

Your quilt is great, I love the fence rail, done several. The ones I did it myself, stitch in the ditch, larger ones had quilted w/a meandering stitch.\
Lovely color combination.

love the colors and quilt. i have done alot of these as lap/baby quilts. i alway stitch in the ditch along the connecting lines once i have finish the quilt.
i have also ditch stitch all the square before putting the quilt together then i do just a little bit of the quilting so that the backing doesn't move.

Your fence rail quilt is just so pleasing to the eye---the browns looks so warm and inviting. I used this pattern, too, and had a lady machine quilt it for me. It was for a baby so she used a meandering heart design. I think it looked great when she finished.
