I have a No Diamonds In The Sky quilt that I will be longarm quilting and I'm not sure what to do on it.

I really don't want to do SID for all the diamond shapes, maybe the S-curve or circle corner-to-corner on the diamonds?

It's for a man so I don't want anything flowery, that wouldn't go with the quilt design IMO anyway. What about the big blank areas? I could TRY feathers but would that also be at odds with the quilt design?

With all the bias edges on your beautiful quilt, you definitely do not want large unquilted areas. Feathers always look so beautiful when done on Lonestars...the curves of the feathers combined with the geometric of the star really plays well together. You could also do orange peels in all the diamonds which would give you curves and allow you to do a continuous design, saving the feathers for the large white squares.

He is a lucky man!

I'm just so bad at feathers. :( Maybe it will help if I do some marking first.

Maybe it will help if I do another half dozen quilts as practice first.

I used to be afraid of feathers, then I drew them all the time and finally got the hang of it. Try the bump bump feathers Karen McTavish shows here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PMxfi6C9vv0 If the backtracking is an issue, just move your feathers an eighth of an inch (or less) apart and you'll find that easier. These are the first feathers I learned: http://www.sallyterry.com/Public/Pro...hers/index.cfm

No ideas for quilting, but just wanted to say how much I like your colors and pattern, really good job.

No ideas for quilting, but that quilt is absolutely gorgeous! You did a beautiful job on the top.

Oh Pam, another beauty! Hmmmm...I'm thinking. I know you can do the feathers and you know thats what it is asking for. Just doodle them alot and your brain will get trained for them. They really aren't all that hard with a little practice. As far as for the diamond areas...maybe your original ideas of the s curves would work well. I'm hand quilting my Jane right now and she used a lot of melon type shapes in the blocks that have lots of diamonds in them. It seems to work well with the geometric diamond shape.

Whatever you choose will be fabulous though, I know!
