This is only a small section of my 56 squares I used for PRACTICE with free motion and pattern designs on my new machine......whole cloth quilt. I hope this photo will post and I hope you can see it. Today, I practiced my first edge to edge pantograph. I'm having a great time. The green quilt was done with a pantograph design.

Denise 01-25-2008 09:51 AM

your welcome jacquemoe, but its true, very very nice work. I have a gracie quilt frame which came with a juki (name of machine) i also got the quilt cad, which is a program with different quilting designs. I tried to plan something on the computer with the quilt cad but lol i still have to play with the program it just doesnt look quite right how they print out. I know i'll figure it out one day, i'm trying to get caught up with some of my wips, so hopefully soon i will get it figured out. Keep up the great work, and looking forward to seeing more of your work, Happy quilting, Denise.

Hi Dinese,
You wouldn't believe how many quilting systems I looked at for about 4 years before I made my decision. I did buy a HandiQuilter Frame a few years ago but............................I DON'T NEED IT ANYMORE  I only made a couple of very small quilts and only one whole cloth quilt, using the HandiQuilter. I got frustrated with my home sewing machine. I hope you have a ball with yours. And, thanks again for the encouragement.

Be sure and let us know when you are quilting for others. I don't have a top ready to practice on, or I'd join the pick me club. You do wonderful work there kiddo! Congrats!

stay-at-home 01-26-2008 08:32 PM

are you putting all your 56 squares together?? after you quilted them or before?? i can't tell looking at the picture. i just got a quilt frame and it is not that easy to follow the pattern. yours looks great. any tips??

My white quilt is a whole cloth. I just used the machine to make sections. What system did you get? All I can say is, practice and practice some more. That's what I'm doing. Pretty soon, I'll have pletny of small quilts to take the to pound for dogs and cats. I know, first hand, that cats love them. What machine are you using?

stay-at-home 01-27-2008 11:50 AM

it's the pfaff hobby 1200.
do you mean that you marked off squares and then tried a pattern in each square for practice? this sounds like a good idea and i think i'll try it. i can do the free handing much more easily than following the pantograph.

dreamdanzzer 01-27-2008 03:32 PM

I think it is gorgeous & still think that is what I want on a quilt top!!! karen

jacquemoe 01-27-2008 05:41 PM

After all the quilting systems I looked for, I don't remember the Pfaff Hobby 1200. Does it have a fairly large sewing area? I could send some sites to you that carry pantographs in all sizes. If the pattern isn't too small, it's easy to follow.
When I did my quilt, I used my channel locks and just sewed a row of 10" squares across and then I started practicing in each square. I think I spent more time trying to decide what to try than I did sewing. I did a lot of freehand practice but I still need a lot more. I just now started a quilt top but I'd rather be top quilting. Enjoy your machine. I sure enjoy mine.

Hi Karen,
I hope you're talking about the leaves and flowers pantograph. It's my favorite too. Thanks again for the compliment.
Jackie
P.S. The first quilt is being sent to me on Monday. Even with the baby-sitting and appointments, I don't plan on it taking me longer than two weeks. I did the white one in one week and the leaves pantograph in one day but it was baby quilt size. The white one is 73 x 73".

Gorgeous work! I look forward to the day when I can quilt so beautifully.
