Quilting suggestions for bug fabric warm wishes quilt please...
1 Attachment(s)
I have two of these tops waiting to be quilted. They have been sitting for over a year. I need to get them quilted and ready for a camper scholarship auction in August.
I usually just meander on donation quilts, which would work for the bug squares. I'm not liking the blockiness of the top and would like to somehow soften the look of squares. Or am I just offbase and is this look ok for a little boy quilt? Let me know what kind of quilting will help out this top. |
Boys like bugs and butterflies so it works for me. Maybe do a big x in the square to quarter it? Meandering is good to. Very nice of you to donate.

Looks great to me, thanks for sharing
Have a Blessed night Ellen |
I don't think it's particularly boxy looking, & is completely appropriate for a childs quilt!! Meandering or scroll work all over would soften the squareness of all the boxes. So would stars in each one of the boxes with a row of stars along the border. It's a really handsome quilt1!

I agree also. Really great quilt!

Very nice quilt top! I think meandering would be great. Do it in thread that you can see and it will look like the bugs have been wandering all over the quilt. Perfect!
|
I like that quilt, I think it is going to be pretty no matter how you quilt it. I would do the two outside borders separately and then meander the rest putting in a bee or butterfly.
|
I love the well wishes pattern and meandering quilting will relieve the blockiness and it will be great. This will be a beautiful community quilt and will definitely be loved by the recipient. Thank you for sharing.

I think ferny leaves of some kind would look nice.
|
Could you outline the critters in the pictures? (It's a beautiful top!)
|
any kind of edge to edge design would be beautiful on that..it's a pretty quilt

You didn't mention if this was LAQ or DSM FMQ?
What about a butterfly in the centre of each of the printed blocks? Or an all over butterfly pattern? Here's two of my quilts where with edge-to-edge butterflies. The first is a pattern similar to yours ... The second shows the quilting design better. http://www.quiltingboard.com/picture...t-t156943.html http://www.quiltingboard.com/picture...s-t122204.html |
Meandering will be perfect! Great quilt :)

QuiltE, thank you for sharing the links to your quilts. I may have to create a bug meander. Guess I need to go look for line drawings of bugs, especially beetles and see if i can come up with something. The quilting will be done on a DSM, no LA yet.
Thank you for your ideas everyone! |

Thank you for your ideas everyone! You're welcome! When I saw the butterflies, I thought of mine. As you probably guessed, they were done on a LA. However, I'm sure you could draw out a butterfly and loop from one to the other with your DSM. And too, could do bugs ... though to me, the butterflies would be more interesting. However, for kids ... yes, they may be more thrilled with bugs! |
I think it is great and I love how the colors you used help the pattern to show up so well. Great choices, and a very nice quilt!

I don't think it looks too blocky. It would be appr. for a boy or a girl. Good luck with deciding on how to quilt it. I have no idea what would look best.
|
That is beautiful but I can't suggest a quilting design, to me anything would look great. I can't wait to see what you end up doing though. Thank you for sharing.
