Sorry to hear your husband has passed away. The best site for free patterns I think is Bonnie Hunter's site. She uses cotton shirts and even has a video on how to "debone" a shirt. All her patterns are listed along the side of http://www.quiltville.com

Condolences on your loss. I think it is a wonderful idea to use your husbands shirts and make quilts for your children. Bonnie Hunter is the expert on that topic. Please don't rush yourself to make the quilts. I set out with my father's necties to make a tie quilt. It took years for the loss to go away enough to cut up the ties. Take your time.

As mentioned before, check out quiltville. Bonnie Hunter has dozens of free patterns from shirts.

Sorry for your loss. I made Dresden plate blocks from my mother-in-laws clothes. that turned out really nice. I even used her jeans and knitted cardigans. I used stabiliser under fabric with movement.

Sorry for your loss hon. A friend of mine asked me to make 6 quilts out of her husband's shirts. I am on the 4th one now.
