There seems to be a lot of confusion about what a 60 degree ruler is/or is used for.
When I got mine,a clerk wanted to sell me a diamond shape,saying it was what I needed.

Would like to see quilts made with a 60 degree ruler.

The 60 degree rulers I have seen are triangles, not diamonds but I'm sure I haven't seen every ruler that is made! OBW or one block wonders are made with this ruler. Do a search above and type in OBW and you will get many, many results

As AuntPiggyLPN .... 60 degreesx3 gives you an equilateral triangle. Two together gives you a diamond. Six a hexagon.

The 60 degree ruler is more versitile than the diamond ruler since you can make hexagons, OBO, diamonds or 1essalations. There is a really cool table runner that is made from border stripes using the 60 degree ruler at the ends.

I have just cut out 2 table runners which needed a 60 degree
triangle. One of my cutting boards was used to make the required triangle out of plastic. My table runners look great. I also used the extra triangles pieces to make a round table ornament which is almost nicer than the runners. LOL

Depending on what you are doing, you may not need 60 degree rulers ... a lot of the regular rulers and the cutting mats have 60°, 45° and other °'s marked on them

Agreed. I frequently use these angles on quilts.

When making a tumbling block quilt the traditional way, doing the Y seams, you would use a diamond shape to cut the pieces. When you follow Marcy Baker's Not Your Grandmother's Tumbling Blocks which are strip pieced, you use a special type of 60 degree ruler. Hope that makes sense.

Correct me if I am wrong, but it is my understanding that a 60 degree ruler has three sides all the same length. 3" across the bottom and 3" on both sides, or what ever size you have the sides are always the same length as the bottom width. Easy way to check to see if that is what you have. Like I said I could be wrong, but this is my thinking.

A 60 degree triangle is one sixth of a circle. 6 times 60 degrees equals 360 degrees.
You see one block wonder quilts on here every day. Those are made from 6 layers of fabric stacked up in identical placement. The fabric is cut into strips and then subcut with your 60 degree ruler. Look for a pattern and give it a try. Do not buy a diamond ruler. You'll never need it.

Coyote, I think those could readily be made with a regular ruler. Thanks for showing them. I particularly like the trees.
