I don't do big quilts anymore but I can share some of what I have done and some of my ongoing quilts to be finished whenever I have the time(haha)
I lied I had to include a few of my stuff I made 20 years ago. They are sadly in bad shape now. Clutch purse This is a close up of the purse above This a leftover piece of a billfold I made years ago. The blocks are 1/8" finished. I made this 100" by hand sewing. This piece I decided I didn't need for the billfold. |

More little quilt projects and WIPs
This is the back of the above billfold. This is a bifold billfold I used for quite awhile. It shows how worn it is. It is about 6" square all done by hand several years ago This quilt was supposed to be my 10 year old grandson Jake's baby blanket and it is still only a top. But I showed it to him does that count? |
Rhonda, I find miniature work fascinating, although I could not do it! The dimensions of those billfolds make me feel faint!

Wow you must have strong hands and really good eyes since those are tinni tiny squares. Very nice.
|
Wow--those are some tiny blocks--I think the top counts!
|
Those were done several years back!! I don't do the hand sewing like that anymore more because I don't have the time than that I can't do it. I take an order of my stuff up to Kalona every two to three weeks so it keeps me pretty busy.
|
Beautiful work! Just lovely piecing. Will have to make a point of looking for your stuff at Kolona. Have planned to go there for several years, and never have arrived, yet! :?
|
I envy you... I could NEVER work with such small pieces.... Your a pro :D
|
The thing I tell people who say they could never do what I do is that if you knew the tricks of the trade and can handle a 1 1/2" square you can do most of what I do. Most of my checkbooks use a 1 1/4" square but it is also what you get used to too. Atttention to accuracy makes a big differance.

All the flooding and the recession hit Kalona's shops pretty hard last summer. I hope they have a better summer this year!!!
|
Miniature work is so amazing. I don't think I could do it, but I love looking at it. Thanks. And showing someone the quilt top has to count because I have done that. LOL
|
I could say your either mad or a genius...but I would be joking. Anybody that can make a piece like that and the blocks end up being 1/8 of an inch, has got to be extreeeeemely talented.
It's not about if somebody could learn to do it, it's about what it would do to your brain, your hands and arms and not to mention your eyeballs would fall out!!! oh my goodness, I am just in awe of your work. I have always loved, loved, loved miniature things, since I was three years old and got a dollhouse for Christmas,...a book there, but that's where the fascination started. Incredible patience and talent is what you have, my lady  |
Thank you for all the nice things they do wonders for my ego!! I sometimes say that 's why I do it to boost my selfesteem!!!
I'm just obsessed with color and design and I have to feed the monster!! I see the world in geometrics all the time! every where I go! Lots of ideas and I freguently forget most of them if I don't write them down!! That's what being over 50- does to you! |
Just a note about the 1/8" blocks. The great thing about sewing them by hand at that size you only have about three stitches when you join two blocks and they don't take very long to do! I used to take hand sewing with me to the hospital alot and now I'm addicted to my Singer and it doesn't travel!
|
I've never seen a Dear Jane quilt so I don't know. I don't make big quilts any more but I take the ideas and miniaturize them for small projects. I've been looking for ideas for tote bags and have made a few but I'm always on the lookout for new ideas. I prefer to add as much variety to my stuff as possible. I'm easily Bored!!!
I'll have to check it out!! Thanks for the idea!! |
Great quilts. I don't think I could work with such small pieces and to sew them by hand - no way!!!
Where is Kalona? I have a top done for my 14 yo g-son and I sent him a pix of it - does that count as done? |

This is a quilt top I made several years ago to sell but couldn't bring myself to part with it. It is still only a top I quess I unconsiously thought if I don't finish it I don't have to feel quilty for keeping it!!
