There are no dumb questions...... I sewed 1/2" inch all around the edge since I used 1/2" seams. Then I snipped all around the edges just like the rest of the quilt seams. Some people sew two rows of stitching all around the quilt for added strength.

I bought all the stuff for one, including a special tool and put it away, then forgot about it, about 2 years ago!!

They are easy to make, in fact I just went and bought more fabric to make two more. I don't have any special tools for it. Just the usual rotary cutter and a good pair of scissors. There are some called "Little Nippers" that are good for rag quilts. You need scissors that have sharp tips in order to snip the raw edges. Other than that, they are very simple to make. I did have to stop "snipping" on occasion to give my hand a rest. Good luck.
