I'm not an applique' person, so I'm wondering what this term means. I'm making a quilt for my gs that is baseball fabric, but it needs something else...it's very plain. I thought I might cut out letters for his name and baseball terms. I was thinking this sounded promising, if it means fusing down, then stitching around close to the edge...not zigzag or anything. Just plain stitching. Here's a pic (maybe). What do you think?

This is just my thought - I really don't qualify as an expert.
When I do wall-hangings with raw edge applique, I do fuse it down and sometimes just straight stitch the edges. But if it's a usable quilt that will be put through the wash, I zig-zag or blanket stitch (with the machine) so the appliques will hold up through the washes. That's a neat quilt and your GS will love it! |
In my opinion you can do the edges anyway you want  Remember we banned the quilt police from here  And I have seen it done many ways  Straight stitch- button stitch- applique stitch- zig zag and satin stitch - it all works

could you applique a baseball on it and with his name?
|
I don't have many ideas beyond his name. :D I just want to put something in the "white spaces" so it won't look so plain. I think I'm just going to have to play around with it some.

His name and baseballs and bats? :D:D:D
Or his name and maybe the words "Batter Up?" |
I like it! It doesn't look plain to me. Remember, quilting can add a lot to it. Why not just put his initials in the center block?... :-D
