Recovery Blanket

4 Attachment(s)
I had my right knee replaced on January 29, 2024 and spent the majority of almost 6 weeks with my leg up and iced while I recovered. I don't hand quilt, but do embroider, so found this kit in my stash. I must have bought it almost 15 + years ago when our first granddaughter was born and never found the time to do it. Well, surgery gave me the time, and our youngest is giving us a new granddaughter in June LOL It is from the Australian magazine Inspirations, which I believe is no longer available, and called Serenity.

It's not exactly practical as the blanket is a soft wool, but hope it will be an heirloom for our daughter, to use for her daughter, to use and pass on, made with love by her Mom/Nana.

Gorgeous work! I used to do a lot of heirloom sewing. In fact, making baby clothes or little smocked dresses, was my passion, before finding I loved quilting in 2019. This is such a beautiful piece to past down. Love all your handwork and your bullion roses. I once made (and I think it may be in an album of mine here on QB) a dedication gown and bonnet for my youngest daughter's children. I hand embroidered everything, used tatting and insertion lace, entredeux, etc. Teachers at school wanted me to bring it and show them when I finished. One teacher exclaimed, "You could put that on EBay and get $300 for it!" I told her I wouldn't take $300 for it, bc it cost me over $150 in supplies! That was 18 years ago. Absolutely love your blanket.

What a fantastic hand sewn project...!t definitely belongs in the heirloom category! I long for my childhood quilt which was well used and love until it was falling apart. I'm sure that it'll be used and loved. Hopefully, it'll survive, and become a treasured quilt throughout her life. Be sure to take photos of her with it. She will feel joyful when she is be able to use it when she has babies of her own.
