THis is my latest endeavor. got the dreden plates at an antique shop. The muslin was in bad shape so appliqued them to a new background and went from there.....and voila'. I know it doesn't show but the sashing is actually a small yellow check.

I love it. If your still not sure you can send it to me. I have a spare bed room that it would match perfectly. You did a great job. Thanks for sharing.

You are so quick! I have a pile of rescued plates in rough shape that will someday be a quilt. Is it just the top or did you f***** it already? It looks great.

SandraJennings 08-05-2007 05:41 PM

It is just the top at present. Am trying to get all my tops together before i go "all the way" :D

Those dresden plates were a lucky find for you Sandra. I love how you put it all together. Very soft and peaceful despite all that radiant color. It's really charming! I'm quite sure I could provide a loving home for it....

Wow, I love it! What a great idea!!

cynde 08-05-2007 07:31 PM

That looks gorgeous.

Did you do the stitching around the dresden plates as you appliqued them onto your fabric, or were they already like that when you lucked into them?

SandraJennings 08-05-2007 07:35 PM

Lucking onto them is right! the stitiching is original to the Dresden...so it was quite a trick appliqueing them on and making sure I kept those stitches present....but as I love to do the handwork...it was ok. Thank you all for your compliments...though I really must say the main work is by the unknown :? who began the project.. :D . I hope they would like my layout.

ShellyQ 08-05-2007 07:37 PM

Sandra you've done a great job of rescuing the plates. Applique sure is a hoot :D

And I'm sure they'd appreciate your layout and that somebody is finally putting to good use the work they have done.

annmarie 08-05-2007 07:38 PM

Wouldn't it be great if someone in cyberspace recognized those dresdans & helped solve the mystery. That is so cool that you rescued them.

SandraJennings 08-05-2007 07:40 PM

It would be.....then I could put their name on it when it is quilted fully.

quilt1932 08-06-2007 07:43 AM

I would never have thought to use a background like that for Dresden plates - wonderful.

Mamapeach417 08-09-2007 07:28 PM

Wow, I saw the Dresden plates in a quilting book, and like the Mariner’s compass, I was in awe of the process. Great work and a very, very lucky find!

I love your Dresden Plate quilt. I did the same thing with my Grandmothers Dresden's and I gave it to my daughter. Your green plaid or check really sets them off. I put a scalloped border around mine and it looked real good. Any way I love yours
