Oh good, Sandy, I was hoping the idea might be useful to someone else.
I just buttonhole stitched the edges together. A satin stitch probably would have been prettier, but I was running out of steam about then. The batting circle was trimmed a little smaller, so as not peek out. I straight stitched the fused letters through all three layers. It's glued onto the lid with four big spots of Elmer's school glue--probably could be soaked off and used somewhere else.
In a pinch, felt and glue would work, but a quiltlet is prettier, right? ;)
