I wanted to learn the OBW but when I put these blocks side by side they were way to busy. I was trying to place them and the blocks made me feel sick, lol. So I put the black in to calm it down.

I like it. I think the black (it's appearing black no my monitor anyway) sets it off nicely.

I lke the black background as it lets you focus on the prints. Pretty design!

Tussymussy 06-20-2011 12:54 PM

I can see what you meant, but they look gorgeous on the black and really pop. Great thinking.

Thanks! I am some what pleased with the effect. Been trying to post the fabric, Don't ask me how I got that in my stash??? Not a fabric I would pick and buy for sure!

LoriEl 06-20-2011 01:01 PM

I like it, too! What a beautiful beginning fabric you used.

Great job!!! I did the same thing with one of my OBW's as it was way too busy without the black.
Yours looks fantactic.

What creative talent you have! I love it!

Okay...you did really good. Your choice to design this way was probably a very good idea. What is OBW

CAS49OR 06-20-2011 01:42 PM

Very good choice to add the black! It's very pretty.

debcavan 06-20-2011 01:45 PM

You did well. It is better this way. To look good in a OBW, you need segregated areas of color not over all color.

It does look great.

MisDixie 06-20-2011 01:47 PM

Thank you all for the kind comments.

OBW stands for one block wonder. All the blocks are cut on layers of reapeat fabric. I had see lots of them on the board and had to try one.

Nice job. The background color really allows the hexagon colors to pop

brightstar_202 06-20-2011 03:57 PM

very nice, I am facing the same thing and do not like to feel dizzy when looking at it. I do believe I will borrow your idea to star them. Your's turned out good and so will mine. Thank you

MisDixie 06-20-2011 04:34 PM

The dark does set off the bright flower print! Very pretty!!!

JeanneZ 06-20-2011 07:18 PM

Personally I like your way much better the other way it almost looks like it is just a printed fabric you cannot tell that it has been cut up and put back togather on some of them.
I like black it just makes your colors POP..
