Since it's the 4th of July I want to share pictures of the picnic quilt I made (especially for the fireworks tonight) and a placemat (which I'm using as a center piece on my table today)

Machine Cathedral Window (took a class with mum and loved it!!)

Absolutely stunning! Is the cathedral windows the hand sewn kind, or the mock kind? Wow, what a nice job. And the red/Wh/Blue one is my FAVORITE! Scrappy, but a definite design. What pattern did you use for it? My compliments!

I love the picnic quilt, but then I love picnics, so perhaps I am biased. Hope you had a great day!

I love both of them. they are beautiful!

SharonC 07-04-2009 02:27 PM

Thanks for the wonderful comments. The scrappy quilt was from a Fons and Porter Magazine...it's called Blue Streak (issue Nov/Dec 06). I started it over a year ago, but got tired of all the little (2") blocks that I had to put it away for a while :).
The Cathedral window is an actual cathedral window--not faux, but done on a sewing machine. It was actually quite easy, I don't know know how to do by hand.

I really like your cathedral windows - and the table topper is wonderful!

I'm totally blown away by the Cathedral Windows. I love the pattern, but never thought I could do one. I watched a friend work on a queen sized quilt, by hand. It turned out beautiful, but I would have gone loony doing it. I didn't even know there was a machine way to do them. I'll have to keep my eyes open for info on it.

Love your patriotic picnic quilt. I, too, love picnics, and this will definitely add to your adventure.

Both are lovely. What pattern did you use for the Patriotic quilt?

sandybeach 07-07-2009 07:08 AM

Wonderful  I am in awe of all those little 2 inch pieces. You did a fabulous job.

Thanks....I'm in awe of your avatar. I am in the process of making one and I sure hope it looks half as good as yours :)

It's the Blue Streak from Fons and Porters Nov/Dec 06 magazine. It took forever to make and since starting it I've learned so many different tricks/tips that I probably would have figured out a way to strip piece and cut as opposed to dealing with each block individually.

I used it on 4th of July and it was GREAT!!! Will definitely take on picnics and when we travel :)

Ducky 07-07-2009 07:29 AM

Wow, they are both gorgeous! I've never done a cathedral window. They look quite intimidating  Beautiful work, Sharon!

reneebobby 07-07-2009 08:27 AM

That is so cute. Love that pattern. Great job.

SharonC 07-07-2009 08:02 PM

Again, :) Thanks for all the kind words. You all give me a little more confidence to press on with WIPs that seemed like they were kicking my butt...and winning :).
Not so much now!
Thanks
