it looks like the beginning of an art quilt.
Fun blocks! Great use of that fabric!
They would look nice just like you have them set on point.
I don't think they are ugly ! I like the scrappy look !!
:-) |
You turned the ugly duckling into a beautiful swan.
I think you are on to something. I agree with placing these block with an alternate. Pick something in the rusty brown family to pick that color up. It will make the quilt pop!
You go girl |
They are not ugly. Go ahead and make a quilt. You will be
surprised at how good it looks. |
I really like these, make some more!!! Jan
I think its gonna be neat!!
I love the colors of the blocks and I think if you could find a color solid as the color of the carpet that you have them lay ed out on and cut solid blocks from that color same as your carpet it would be so pretty with them. :D
Use them as the square in Log Cabin blocks.
Definetely (sp??) worth the time.
You did a great job with them. That would be challenging fabric to work with.
If you have any cream or tan solid like your carpet it will be awesome!!!
Looks nice...maybe try it with dark blue alternating blocks
Some of the most beautiful creations come from the most ugly of beginnings. I think that your quilt is going to look absolutely stunning when its done. Keep at it and when its done, please do post a finished picture! Looking forward to seeing it. Best wishes.

YES it's worth it! Even the ugliest fabric can be made into something beautiful.
As far as, what to do with 10 blocks-you will have to place these with something special to bring out the potential in the fabric. |
If you don't want to make an actual quilt with them, turn them into mug rugs!!! They are really intersting and could be GREAT conversation starters!!!

I was on a roll and about 12 midnight, when I should have been quitting, I came to this fabric. I almost tossed it because patchwork fabric scraps don't do well turning them into randomly cut 2" squares or 2 1/2 inch strips and they weren't big enough for the 5" charms. Then I remembered seeing where someone had cut "pieced" prints into 4-patch squares, so I decided to try it. I cut all I could from the scraps that were large enough and then started fooling with layout...and went to bed at 2:00. I have enough to make 10 blocks and will fussy cut 2" squares from some of the fabric that I could use in borders or something. Is it worth spending this much time with ugly fabric. What will I do with 10 blocks?

Dear Martha,
What do you think about this idea? Applique 10 fanciful shoes (or glass slippers) on the spacing blocks. I like light blue for the background for those, try it for color harmony...and call the whole thing "Cinderella"! |

Regardless of how it started out, you've made these fabrics look awesome! Congrats on your creativity!
I love them........not ugly to me.
They aren't ugly as bocks. It would look nice as a quilt for a boy or man.

actually, I think what happened to you is called a "muse".
We get so used to following patterns and instructions, that we start losing the ability to "free lance" or just play. When we get away from all input and just start working with our resources, our brain starts outputting the things we have put into it. I can't imagine that the original fabric was all that ugly, it was simply not something you wanted to mess with at the time. I like to call what you have produced as "seed" blocks - - they are the beginnings of another quilt - - but, then ... I do scrappy REALLY well! I like your blocks! <wave> |
