Rehabbed String Quilt

2 Attachment(s)
I was given this one about a decade ago, the binding was questionable and there were frayed parts here and there. All hand stitched and in good shape. I finally took off the old binding and put on new, repaired areas that needed it and now it will go to a new home. I have an elderly gentleman in my neighborhood who always shares his garden goodies with me. He always talks about his late mother and how much he loved her and misses her. He has never been married and enjoys being neighborly with those that pass by his home. I think he will enjoy this quilt and he can enjoy reminiscing about the good old days when things were simpler and more neighborly.

I can't see any area that might have been repaired. How did you do the repairs? When I was reclaiming an old quilt, I simply cut blocks to cover those with holes, folded the edges and top-stitched them over top of the holes. But that meant the back had more "quilting" lines. I matched thread to the backing so the extra stitching wasn't intrusive but I see nothing that indicates repair on your work. You must have hand-sewed your repairs.

That's such a pretty quilt! I'm sure he'll be thrilled with it. So nice of you to think of him.

That's a beautiful quilt! I'm sure your friend will be quite touched when you give it to him.

How sweet of you to gift this to your neighborly gardener. A great save too. My daughter Ashley, asked me to make a quilt for her daughter Avery's caregiver Sam. Sam likes angels and so far I haven't came up with anything, for her an angel quilt.......

What a kind and thoughtful gesture on your part. Your repairs came out wonderful and won't be noticed at all. The soft and cuddly quilt will remind him of his mom I'm sure.
