Our church had a team in the city's "Relay for Life" Cancer relay that occurred this weekend.
The gal who was the main organizer for our team "Faith for the Cure" asked if our quilting group would want to make a quilt to sell in a silent auction. I decided that I would just go ahead and make it and donate it for our team. I suggested doing a raffle instead of the silent auction.
I am still waiting to hear how much money it raised, it wasn't a ton but still raised at least $100.
Great thing was, a former member of our church, in fact the wife if one of our former pastors who started a daughter church in a neighboring city saw it and fell in love with it. Maria has been treated this past year for a really aggressive breast cancer. She had a double mastectomy and went through months of aggressive chemo treatments. They even called and asked me if I could make another very similar to it with the same color fabrics (I used up a couple of older fabrics in making it)
Anyway, Mary from our church bought 20 tickets at a dollar each and put her name on ten and Maria's name on ten. Mary won the raffle drawing and decided to then give to the quilt to Maria. That was a wonderful thing to do.

Just heard back from Tara. I think it brought in about $170.
She did say that there were several people that wanted to just buy it outright. Depending on what's happening next year I may make another one and try again.
