OK.. I decided I need to further organize my stash so instead of spending the day cleaning...lol.. I spent the day tearing out and figuring out how to start re-organizing my stash. This is what I have so far.. I figure I should be finished in about another year or so <giggle>

the bolts are 1/2 yd, 1 yd, and larger all are marked with yardage

Looks good. I like the way you wrapped your fabrics.

Quilted Dogs 06-18-2011 08:34 PM

IT IS A BEGINNING FOR SURE, GREAT JOB AND KEEP GOING

cherylynne 06-18-2011 08:35 PM

Looks nice and neat. You should be able to find what you are looking for quickly.

Quilted Dogs 06-18-2011 08:36 PM

WHAT R YOUR FABRICS WRAPPED ON? I AM GOING TO CUT MY BOARDS IN TWO'S AND THREE'S. LIKE U GET IN THE FABRIC STORE WHEN YARDS ARE GONE. WORKING ON MY ROOM AS WELL. WILL POST WHEN DONE. BEFORE AND AFTER PICS.

Tippy 06-18-2011 08:43 PM

I have a bunch of cardboard boxes I'm cutting up for the biggest boards. the smaller ones are cardboards (8.5" x 11") that come out of paperwork from the print shop at work. our secretary saves them for me. I cut them in 1/2 for the mid sized lengths (1 yd to 2.5 yards) the smallest ones are those same cardboard cut in quarters (for 1/2 yd lengths)I have a bunch of 4 yard and up lengths that I got the empty fabric bolts from Hobby Lobby and WalMart to store them on. (not shown)

Looking good! Can't wait till schools out for me so I can clean and reorganize my room.

Lilrain 06-18-2011 08:49 PM

I thought "where is the rest of her fabric?" then I went back and read that this project of organizing has just started. LOL

Tippy 06-18-2011 08:51 PM

yes.. this is barely the tip of the iceberg..lol

normasews 06-18-2011 08:52 PM

Looks great! I also spent today organizing my sewing room, but yours looks much better.

blueangel 06-18-2011 09:18 PM

sweet 06-19-2011 03:33 AM

Everything looks very organized, keep it up!

deedum 06-19-2011 03:41 AM

yes looks great! What did you use to wrap your fabric? I did my with poster board, but now Iunderstand that they aren't acid free and can erode into yr fabric.. so I am taking them out. and cardboard can do the same..

Midwestmary 06-19-2011 04:10 AM

I see some bright, fun fabrics there!

chickadeee55 06-19-2011 04:47 AM

Looks great, and love your fabrics.

debcavan 06-19-2011 04:50 AM

If you just want to do more, I have some you can start on. Congrats

traumaRN 06-19-2011 04:54 AM

be careful with the cardboard, if it isn't acid free (and I doubt it is) it can destroy your fabric. There is a lady here on the board who cuts boards and sells them very reasonably priced.

BeeNana 06-19-2011 05:01 AM

Good job and looks nice. Easy to see everything.

Vivian Ketron 06-19-2011 06:06 AM

Looks good. If you are like me you can see fabric you had forgotten about. I usually look at a piece and say, I wonder what I was going to with that. lol

Thanks for the heads up . . .

Is there a way to store fabric on "boards" for FREE - ???

Julie in NM 06-19-2011 06:21 AM

OK Tippy. You organizing your room gave me the incentinve to organize my sewing PROJECT. Maybe I can get it finised. You keep organizin and I'll keep sewing. Deal?

See you in the chat room and you lurkers. Come into the chat room. We chat about everything and sometimes end up laughing our heads off.

Tippy 06-19-2011 07:07 AM

I'm well aware of the pros and cons of "acid free" for everything touching our fabrics, but I'll tell you what.. I really don't plan on these lasting for hundreds of years.. and how many keep fabrics in wooden or "non-acid free" cardboard, or plastic boxes.. which can give off chemical fumes..... If you do all of those and are making museum pieces I can understand worrying about it. I'm not.. I'm just making fun and pretty things to last for a while and keep friends and family toasty for a bit. So by choice I'm blatantly using what is available..I don't think the boards that fabric comes on in shops is acid free either is it?

deenatoo 06-19-2011 07:09 AM

Looks very nice....

QUILTNMO 06-19-2011 08:37 AM

Definitely -- be very careful with any cardboard or corregated boxes that you cut down. I know the price is good, but they can cause damage to the fabric. Also, the corregated material has a lot of starch in it and the critters love it.

That said, I think the stuff from the fabric store is probably better than the boxes from Costco.

GreatStarter 06-19-2011 08:42 AM

Great job on organizing your fabrics!! Now will you keep working on your sewing room?

I haven't found one yet, but hers are $12/pack (the # of boards in the pack depends on what size you buy) which is less than any others I've found.
