A month or two ago I posted asking advice on whether or not I should make a quilt for a friend. We went to high school together but lost touch. We reconnected with Facebook, she helped my grandad with meals and such while my parents were trying to get him into assisted living and is now graduating from nursing school. I took all y'all's advice and made her a lap quilt and a pillow case with the extra backing. I will be mailing it off tomorrow so it will get to her by graduation. Thanks for the input!

I absolutely adore your quilt! Is there a name for this pattern? I know it is simply pieced hearts, but it appears to be made using rectangles and I'm wondering what size you used, and how much lavender fabric was needed for your lap quilt. I'd like to make a lap quilt to take with me to my Chemo treatments. Your friend is going to love her quilt. Great job!

Lovely, she will cherish it.

Such a sweet quilt! Love the reversed layout, it adds a lot to visual appeal. Are your blocks 6" finished? HSTs and snowballs?

Thank you so much for your kind words. I used a pattern called Topsy-Turvey Hearts from cottongloryquilts.com. It calls for cutting 2x8 inch rectangles and using one 4 inch square on the bottom in the rectangle to make the point of the heart and 2 2.25 inch hearts on the top of the rectangle to make the heart bumps and then sew 2 opposites together to make a heart. The instructions were written more clearly than that, but that's the gist of it. I was pleased with how it turned out. It calls for 2.5 yards of background fabric, 3/4 yards for binding, 8-13 fat quarters and 4-4.5 yards for backing. There are also optional boarders calling for .5 and 1 yard of fabric for each. I now have a bunch of bonus triangles left over to do something with. I'll need to figure that one out next!
