Reversible Quilt Borders

2 Attachment(s)
I have almost finished my reversible QAYG baby quilt. I am trying to decide if I should add borders or just bind it. If I do add borders I thought white with a four patch corner stone using the fabric in my quilt. I am not sure what to do with the wacky nine patch side. I want to be finished (do you ever feel that way) so I just want to bind it, but I don't want it to look bad. This is not being made for anyone, I just like to make baby quilts.

Well, I'm afraid I almost ALWAYS prefer borders. They really seem to enhance the quilt top. I understand your feeling at this point and your quilts are great, but I vote for borders, especially since YOU're doing it and not I!!

As for the just wanting it done, I totally can relate. I agree with ruthrings liking borders versus no borders and since it's just a border away from being finished I think I'd put a border on making it a great finished quilt. I really like what you have done. Can't wait to see them finished. As for the wonky block side, I myself would just do a border in the same fabric you used for frame of each block (it looks like a dark navy print to me) I think that would look great. You can go with a 2.5 inch border so you don't have so much left to do.

I almost always prefer borders of some kind, but it's "your quilt, your way".

Need borders, otherwise they look unfinished.....Nice work.....

i prefer borders. but in the case of baby quilts that will be dragged around, i think it would be fine without. i'd do the binding in the same color as the sashing, though.

I vote for border too. On the side with the wonky 9-patches, I'd just use the fabric that you have in the sashing. If you don't have enough of that fabric for borders, maybe just a dark blue solid.

I always think a border really sets off a quilt!

That is going to be so cute when it is finished! Personally I would do double borders using yellow & blue. Total of 3 to 3.5 inches.

great idea for the quilt

Sewhappygal 10-13-2012 06:17 AM

I'm not always a fan of boarders but I do think boarders would finish off these quilts nicely.

Please add borders because it frames your work, and you did a terrific job! I agree with LynnM...double borders of yellow and blue, and I'd probably make just a tiny bit wider so you can scallop the edges. Beautiful! Whatever you do, please post pictures of the finished quilt.....I love what you did.

Thank you all for your responses. I like your ideas of what to do with the wonky block side. I thought of just doing a white border on the snowball blocks, but not sure if that's a good idea. I would love to hear your suggestions for a border for that side.

I like doing borders. To me they look unfinished without them. JMHO.

I am with the others - a border just seems to frame the quilt and set it off.

QUILTNMO 10-13-2012 01:03 PM

if i pillowcase baby quilts i dont put borders just my own way of doing it.i find piloowcasing for charity is easier for me

Jingle 10-13-2012 05:08 PM

I always have borders, at least one to frame the quilt. Just think it makes them look finished. Just my opinion, your quilt make it to your liking.

Beauiful quilt.

If you want it larger, add borders, otherwise you can leave it as it is. I think white would be fine for the snowball side if you decide to add them.
