I just tried a block using the Ronda Woosmall Method.
I must say it sure makes cutting out blocks a lot faster and more accurate. BUT, it seems to waste fabric. Making a quilt would take a lot more fabric.

I didn't think so. But if it does, it might be worth using more fabric becasue the blocks come out perfect.

It may be the way you're doing it...because when *I* do the Rhonda Woodsmall method, there is virtually no waste. I also dig in my scraps to get pieces to do Rhonda's method, so I'm already using "other" waste from "other" methods.

Don't know about the extra fabric , but do know that is a beautiful block :mrgreen:

Everyone has their own favorite way of doing things. You just have to decide what is best for you.

I love Rhonda Method I can use scraps and get some of the most gorgeous blocks with little effort. And if you do have scraps left over use them. It is never a waste.

Very pretty and looks like you can sew a seam and not loose your points. I was a bit curious about that.

I think it turned out great. I also think the waste is minimal and if you are using scrap fabric to begin with (like I did) you really aren't wasting any. Besides, if the waste isn't that small, you can use it again for another Rhonda Woodsmall Method block. They rock. I've made one so far and I loved the technique and VERY LITTLE WASTE.

Did you use her templates with this block? Confused with what she offers - maybe because I am new to the board. Can anyone explain this to me?

Never heard of this either, it almost looks like fabric is folded and just sewn in the seam, I am off to google this and look this up.

I just downloaded her e-book for Star Points Blocks. I am excited to try her method. I have watched a couple of her tutes and think it is the answer for me. Several years ago I decided to make a flannel quilt for my son & DDIL and thought I would do it in triangles. Never thought of starch, or any of the other hints here. I haven't done triangles since. I figure it is time to suck it up and advance to something more difficult. And they look so great when finished. I love yours

Jerrie I love how this one came out for you!! Love love love the colors and prints!! Yes you can manage the waste by cutting the swatches to minimal but I prefer to have larger swatches then after I cut out the block I pull the leftovers apart and resew them together for another block. It is just faster. And anything that is too small for the project I am working on I make smaller blocks from them or I use them in a Crumb block or use them for smaller projects. I never throw anything away until it is just threads left! LOL

Im not familiar with the method but, that is one BEAUTIFUL block!!! I will look up the method!!!

A quick question....if you were to buy thread from JoAnn fabrics, which would be the best to purchase?

Rhonda's Methods are wonderful. They are the best blocks I have ever made. You keep all your points, and end up with a beautiful block. I have wasted a lot of fabric with regular ways of making blocks trying to get my points to match up.

Rhonda is very generous with her instructions and time to help you; look at her above posting with the links to show you how to do these blocks.
