I just got back from the county fair and HAD to post...I won 2 red ribbons, and my young friend, Rachel, won a BLUE ribbon on her very first quilt that she made, with my guidance, over the winter!!! She's already making big plans for her entries for next year, and her mom doesn't really sew much so I'm sure she'll be spending some time here with me. Her excitement was PRICELESS!

I am also THRILLED to have placed with both my entries, especially considering all of the incredibly talented quilters in this area! More on the white quilt here: http://www.quiltingboard.com/t-135369-1.htm

That whole cloth work just blows me away!! You quilter's that produce those works of art have my undying admiration! Sounds kind of gushy-but that kind of work is just so fabulous. If I tried that first I would spill coffee on it, the iron would puke water on it, i would get cheeto marks on it, then I would drop it on the basement floor on the way to the washer, then accidently step on it, the washable marker would not wash out and I screwed up the design putting it on with the marker in the first place- you get the picture! So I will be content to admire your work and be amazed at the work of art that you have created! Thank you so much for sharing and making beautiful quilts !

Funny you should say that! I spent almost as much time trying to remove stains from the white quilt as I did actually quilting it!!! I won't be doing another WHITE one anytime soon.

I couldn't figure out which quilt was the blue ribbon winner in the "specialty techniques" catagory mine was in. It included: trapunto, embroidery, wholecloth, cross stitch, cathedral windows, yo-yos; but I managed to leave my reading glasses at home and couldn't read the lot numbers on the tags very well. I'm hoping someone at guild next month might be able to tell me. The judges didn't leave any comments on my quilt, so I don't really know what to work on improving either.

Rachel is making big plans for next year's entries already--so CUTE! I think she'll become quite the quilter. At 8 years-old she spent a couple of ALL-DAY sessions on this to finish it with just a short break for lunch. And she's got FMQ "samples" of mine pinned up on her bedroom walls. I'm pretty sure she's a quilter in the making!
