Rip it out or not?
 

I made a quilt called Stars in My Garden. There's a picture of the quilt top & what I found when as I rolled it up on the frame....do I rip it out back to this pucker or do you think it will be better when it's finished & off the frame? Thanks, Debbie

If you're asking the question then I think that means you're not happy with it, and should probably rip it back. JMHO It's a beautiful quilt, by the way!

It will not "magically" get better when it is off the frame. If you can live with it as is, leave it. I am assuming you would have seen a problem before advancing the quilt if it was noticable on the front so I am assuming it is not visible on the front. It may become less noticable after washing.

BUT, if it will bother you, now and forever, rip it. If you plan on showing this quilt, rip it. If you plan on gifting the quilt, rip it.

It looks like your backing got a little loose in the frame. That is what caused this.

Beautifull Quilt!! I know from experance If it bothers you, you will see it first thing every time you look at the quilt, even if no one else will. So if it bothers you, MAKE LIKE A FROG RIP IT!!

Thanks everyone...I guess I'll be making like a frog. Luckily I'm only about 1/4 of the way into the quilt. Do I have to rip everything out from where I stopped quilting back to the pucker all across the quilt or can you rip out just in that area?

Too pretty of a quilt to not go back and fix it in my humble opinion...

It's a beautiful quilt. I understand your pain at the thought of ripping it out, but I think since you've asked, you're not very happy about. If it's going to bother you everytime you use the quilt or see it, I would say get out the old ripper! You put a lot of time into the making of this and if you won't be happy it will be a shame.

Yes, definitely rip it out or it will haunt you forever :) especially since the front of the quilt is so beautiful!

I spent an hour last night ripping out.

I had to rip out a king size quilt, the bulge was between each row. Took about a year. It taught me a lesson to look under the quilt every so often.

Well, now...you know when we ask somebody else a question like this, we already know what we need to do, huh. So, it's already bothering you, so IMHO, rip it out. You'll be much happier in the end for doing so. Thanks for trusting our opinions and thanks for sharing your humanity!

You'll have to ripit out all the way to the pucker all across it or it will pucker again.

This is gonna be complicated! I would leave it there , take it off the frame when donequilting then...

Iron the pucker so it creates a pleat on one of the edges of the pucker and cover it with a bias binding vine and leaves and flowers . Just like the front of the quilt! How special woult that be? !

don't rip it out it doesn't have to be perfect after it's quilted no one will notice, it's beautiful as it is

I worked two years on mine its called canadian garden, I was learning the free motion tech. Beautiful top. the back made me sick with all the puckers. I hate it I did not rip it out because it would have been the ruin of the fabric. If you can rip do it gladly.

I just wanted to let everyone know that I did rip it out back past the pucker. I bought extra loft batting because I wanted the stars to puff out...which they are, but I think there will be a puffy area (not a pucker, but still not liking it) between each row. I'll post a picture of the quilt when I get it finished. Thank you all for the advice & letting me know that I'm not the only one that can create puckers.

If you are asking the question - I think you know the 'right answer for you' -

The top is lovely - and the extra on the back may not be overly noticeable to others - but it won't magically disappear and even after washing, will be a bit looser than the rest of the backing
