2 Attachment(s)
I have started my fusion quilt and am slowly getting it done. its 100 squares which will be 250x250cm quilt. Kaffe Fasseet has also made a few lovely ones with his fantastic fabric range.

Pardon my ignorance......what is a fusion quilt?
I did not know what it was either so I checked google. It seems to be some kind of fused applique process. I signed up for a free pattern since it was a teapot and cup...I love teapot patterns/applique ...seems interesting..
I was curious as to the term fusion quilt. I will have to google it.
Sewsew, please keep posting as you continue. This is interesting and new to me! Sweet kitty by the way!

From what I understand these are
Crochet and fabric quilts. Patchwork is joined together using your choice style of crochet that is what the blanket stitch on each block is used for. The squares are like completed mini quilts with the seams already done. The ones I saw had backing and batting along with your top fabric and had been turned and sewn around then blanket stitches with yarn or crochet yarn to be joined. Some can have some pretty fancy joining. |
went looking and here is a decent tutorial for one Kinda wish I remembered how to do crochet

Yes, it is a combo of crochet and quilting. The pics I saw were very interesting and pretty. I may have to learn how to crochet! sewsue- please keep us updated!!!
interesting. i'd love to see it done.
Interesting technique I have never heard of it in the states. Lucky your cat decided not to lay on your quilt!!
very inyeresting be sure to show when all completed!!!
I remember maybe a year or so ago someone here had done one.....I think if I were to do one though, I wouldn't use charm on both sides...save those for the front, maybe use solid or tonal for back....just thinking......and darn it! I sold all my yarns last year at my garage sale.....sigh.....JAF having a yarn sale?
So very pretty! Kitty looks tuckered after all that work.
What an interesting post! Your fabrics will look great with that technique and I'll bet your cat will "help" you (or maybe not - !!).
Thanks everyone I am slowly getting the blocks completed and the feature fabric will be alternated by calico fabric.
Here's the tutorial for the one done by tron80:

Similar to the pot holder quilts. Finished and bound squares sewn together.

This will be really nice.
Yes thats the fusion pics I saw! grr got so many projects to do getting very little time to spend with this one!
Interesting...Keep us updated as to your progress.
Didn't Ricky Times have a pattern called Fusion something? I don't think it had anything to do with crocheting edges. tinker
Sorry no idea tinker!!
Just a note to say that I am still working on my fusion quilt and finished all 100 blocks till the stage where I have done 70 blanket stitching and 40 the crochet work is done too. So now its just the last 30 to get done with the blanket stitching which is time consuming and also my fingers get tired of pulling the thread through but I am determined to get these done soon.
It's fusing (joining) crochet with fabric.
I too did not know what fusion quilting was. After reading information from everyone here it looks like a wonderful craft to learn. You have a beautiful start and I am anxious to see your progress
Please keep posting progress. Looks like a lot of interest for this type of quilting.
