Ruler quilting
 

I just received my ruler foot and one ruler to begin the process. Am I supposed to put gripping dots on the ruler to prevent slipping? I've watched a few youtube videos and can't tell if they have them or not. Is there a reason not to? With ruler quilting do you ever need to flip the ruler over? Thank you for any advice on this new venture.

If you have gripping dots, you should put a few on. Be sure to avoid the areas where there are registration marks on your ruler that you may need for lining up.

I use tiny strips of rubber shelf lining and glue it on with E 6000. Works great.

I can't think of anytime you need to turn your ruler over.

*don't* use dots, they raise the level of the ruler, causing it to bend in the middle. Just use your fingers.

Yes, you need gripper of some type on your ruler to keep it from sliding when using. You want to have a slider on the machine to let the fabric move smoothly and gloves are helpful to allow you to move ruler and fabric. There are many rulers that it is helpful to apply a gripper to both sides of the ruler. I have tried several types of grips and there is a ruler tape that I like as it is flat and semi transparent and I also use Ruler Magic glue that can be washed off when it starts to lose grip. When using Ruler Magic glue I have now started sprinkling table salt on the glue as it dries and this gives me a better grip and again will wash off if needed. Next go to Sew Steady or YouTube and watch videos to learn how to use your new found toy. Sew Steady also has a Facebook page and have been doing a lot of video demos on different rulers along with tips, and give aways.

I am waiting for my Ruler set to arrive in the mail. Of course everything is delayed. Now I am looking at late June before they get here. I will most likely be asking a lot of questions after they arrive. For now I will follow this thread closely.

You can also use a small amount of basting spray on the back of the ruler..Let it dry and it will be tacky..learned this at a longarm class.
