Ruler Work

2 Attachment(s)
I took the first Patsy Thompson ruler work class that started today [ https://blog.patsythompsondesigns.co.../archives/8334 ]
It's easier than I expected as it is my first try. My quilt sandwich batting is a little too puffy, but I already had it put together.

I just read her tutorial, and I think it's very well written. I've got it saved for future reference.

Very good, I haven't tried that yet.

Looks really good. What kind of ruler did you use?

I have the westalee rulers

Three Dog Night 01-02-2018 08:34 AM

My LQS has a class on using rulers called Ruler of the Month, it is using Westalee ruler starter set and we work with a different ruler every month and then explore different specialty rulers. Really enjoy it and learning so much of what rulers can do. They also had Kelly Kline give a class on Vintage quilting using her rulers with a domestic machine. Thank you for providing the link to this ruler class.

You did a great job with the ruler quilting.

jmoore 01-03-2018 04:08 AM

Awesome job Nan. I am hoping to play with the rulers from her class tomorrow as we are expecting a Nor Easter.

stichinluvr 01-03-2018 06:14 AM

I took it too. Wasn't it fun?? I can't wait for the rest of them.

Stay safe. I heard you are supposed to get a big one.

EmiliasNana 01-03-2018 06:15 AM

Great job Nan. I'm hoping to do it too, but you have certainly given me encouragement.

rryder 01-03-2018 06:46 AM

Thanks. I have tried the beginners straight and curved, but have a hard time holding it secure. After seeing yours I think I'll give it another try.

jokir44 01-03-2018 08:45 AM

I'll be doing that same design in one area today. I practiced yesterday and like the outcome.

Suz 01-03-2018 08:53 AM

I have a few rulers also, but do not have the special foot used for ruler work. Dislike purchasing a foot if I do not like working with rulers. Should I take a class at the LQS before investing. I think the foot is about $75.

Like what you have learned so far. Thanks for showing us.

Advice please. Thanks.

are you using the gripper strips that come with the beginner set? i used a piece about 1/2-3/4" long about 1/3 the way in from each end because that's where i tend to hold it

i honestly don't know how you would do it without the foot

Mariposa 01-03-2018 09:41 AM

Great job on the ruler work!

Suz 01-04-2018 05:42 AM

I have the BSR and other darning feet, however the ruler foot seems to be much thicker and should glide along side the rule. Just questioning if I should invest in the foot or atleast try it at the LQS or take the ruler use class.

Becky's Crafts 01-04-2018 08:49 AM

Good job!! You did great for a first try.

red-warrior 01-09-2018 07:21 AM
