March 26th two Des Moines Police officers were killed by a very intoxicated wrong way driver. The crash was horrific, the wrong way driver was going 102 mph, the police vehicle 79 mph. The crash was head on, their were no survivors, including the prisoner who was being transported.
This is the quilt that was my WIP when this tragedy occurred, it is now in the possession of the DMPD, soon to be delivered to the toddler daughter of Officer Susan Farrell.

That's so tragic. I'm sure your thoughtfulness will be much appreciated.

Jo Anne B. 05-23-2016 06:34 AM

Sorry for the horrific details, maybe I coulda/shoulda have left those out.
I am eager to see if they are able to send a pic of Ryleigh and her quilt, if not that's okay too.
It was a total coincidence that I was working on the quilt, I had no one in mind for it. It was meant to be.
Hope she loves it and it brings her some happiness.

Bluebonnets 05-23-2016 06:36 AM

My heartfelt hope is Ryleigh loves it and brings her some level of love and happiness no matter how small. The label is just a little wonky, the embroidery work was donated.

Wow. What a tragic story. God bless the families. That is a very thoughtful thing for you to do. Bless you....

JanieH 05-24-2016 07:37 AM

I volunteer with the Houston Police Department and, from knowing many of the officers there, I am sure the quilt and the love you put into it will mean so much, not only to Ryleigh but to all the officers!

Jo Anne B. 05-24-2016 09:18 AM

Good grief!...should be "there" not their.
That one got by me, I really know better than this!!
JanieH. I find it incredibly sad that Ryleigh will not grow up with a mom and probably too young to even have memories of her.

MargeD 05-24-2016 09:50 AM

What a senseless tragedy, driving and alcohol do not mix. My heart goes out to those families to the brave men and women who put their lives on the line for us. I really like the quilt and I'm sure it will be cherished.

Such a sad waste of life but a pity the culprit didn't survive to feel some of the pain inflicted on innocent victims. I'm sure Ryleigh will cling to her comfort blanket and think of her mother with each hug.
