How cute, where did you get the pictures was it a kit?

SandyinZ4 02-15-2011 07:42 AM

What a great quilt with lots of memories for those of us who grew up with Dick & Jane. I really like your border design, too!

judykay 02-15-2011 07:57 AM

I used the same Dick and Jane fabric in a quilt for my grandson when he was born almost ten years ago. When I took it to the quilt shop that I purchased the fabric from to show them the finished product I was informed that they had received notification that they were to try to get all the fabric back that they had sold that it was not copyrighted and should never have been distributed. We both said yeah right like that is going to ever happen.

What a cute quilt. I have to say I like having you on the board. You have such great ideas.

What a darling quilt! I had the teacher's big book (remember those?) for many years, then we had "a water catastrophe" in our house and it got wet. That really hurt. I had taken such good care of it for such a long time. (I had rescued it from the "trash" that was being cleared from a book room at school.) That book was published the year of my birth. Anyhoo! I have several pieces of the Dick and Jane series and can't decide what to do with it. Actually I can't make up my mind to cut into it. Ouch!

Twinnie 02-15-2011 01:20 PM

Yikes! Check eBay for the value of the big book. I don't see any recent sales, but your head will swim at the prices.

I don't think I want to know. I got rid of the book after it got wet.

nannya54 02-15-2011 02:19 PM

Nice job! How many of us learned reading on Dick and Jane and "see Spot run". What memories! Great job!

Oh I love it and I love the Dick and Jane books. Where did you get a kit like this? I learned to read from the Dick and Jane books and they were wonderful.

valpoquilter 02-15-2011 06:00 PM

Oh Dick, Jane, and Sally. Thanks for the memories and sharing your beautiful quilt.

Minding My Ps and Qs 02-15-2011 06:06 PM

I think the quilt is adorable!

My name is Sally, my husband is Dick. No one in the family is named Jane, but...
We received refrigerator magnets of Dick and Sally from dear friends when we married 13 years ago. It is a second marriage for both of us, so we really didn't need much, but enjoyed the good memories the magnets brought!

donnaree59 02-15-2011 06:10 PM

So cute! I recognized the people (Sally, Dick, and Jane) from struggling to learn to read years (and years and years!) ago. Really nice job!

quiltedout 02-15-2011 06:29 PM

I am so happy to see how you planned out this quilt. I have the panel with plans to make it up as a wallhanging for my teacher son's kindergarten/ library. Now I must get busy! I just finished one of Dr. Seus for his class coming up in March.
