Same pattern - 2 different looks

After being in a cast for my broken arm for 6 weeks, then in a splint for what will be 2 additional weeks, I tried to sew a week after they removed the cast. Oh, my sweet little machine, how I have missed you! The pieces for these two charity quilts had been cut out waiting to be sewn together. Took me a little over a day working on and off to do each of the quilts but I like the result. They were sewn with 4-1/2" squares for the 4-patch, with sashing cut at 1-1/4" and borders cut at 2-1/2". Only 1 more week and I will be able to cut fabric again! Hooray!

So pretty and worth the wait.

Same pattern but what a difference!!! They look great.

GailG 12-13-2015 10:39 AM

This is the kind of scrappy I love -- and I can handle. The difference is amazing!

twinkie 12-15-2015 03:15 AM

You did very well and glad your arm is healing.

Battle Axe 12-15-2015 03:35 AM

Thanks for sharing. I'm trying to decide on a sashing for a bear paw.

jmoore 12-15-2015 03:50 AM

great scrappies Judy. I cannot imagine what you've been going through. I would be nuts after just one week let alone six weeks. Happy that you're back in the swing of things.

quilterpurpledog 12-15-2015 04:02 AM

Glad you are back to sewing. I like your new creations and know the people who receive them will love them.

SheriR 12-15-2015 04:04 AM

Different fabrics and colors always changes the look of the same pattern.
Very pretty quilt tops, glad you are able to sew again.

mjhaess 12-15-2015 06:10 AM

carolynjo 12-15-2015 07:13 AM

You did a beautiful job!

Mariposa 12-15-2015 07:18 AM

Glad you are healing up. Both tops look great!

lawsonmugs 12-15-2015 07:23 AM

Welcome back to your sewing machine. Glad your sewing again. Pretty quilts too. Amazing how doing the same quilt with different fabrics look so different. It's like the mystery train rides. We're all working on the same pattern and end up with different looking quilts.

rosiewell 12-15-2015 07:46 AM

I am glad you are all better, I know how frustrating is not being able to do what you love. the little quilts are adorable.

bjsmith57 12-15-2015 08:55 AM

Very nice...thanks for sharing.

MargeD 12-15-2015 09:48 AM

After all that time, I'm sure you were thankful to be able to sew again. I had my right shoulder replaced in May, of course I'm right handed, so I was going a little stir crazy not being able to quilt. Unfortunately, I didn't have any projects ready to work on, but I was thrilled when I could get back to sewing and quilting again.

Bluebonnets 12-15-2015 10:14 AM

They look great and I'm glad you're getting better!!

IBQUILTIN 12-15-2015 10:23 AM

Welcome back and what nice pieces you finished up

wendiq 12-15-2015 02:33 PM

They really do look different.....so glad your arm has healed as it should and that you can get back to sewing.......
I use the same pattern often, too, when I'm doing charity quilts.......why not??????

Karen Mc 12-15-2015 05:09 PM

Very pretty! Glad you are healing and able to get back to sewing!

Grandma Peg 12-15-2015 08:43 PM

Very nice quilts and glad you are feeling better.

QM 12-16-2015 01:47 AM

These are a splendid example of the difference coloring makes. Good for you.

JoyjoyMarie 12-16-2015 07:05 AM

Isn't it always interesting to see such a comparison! Both quilts are excellent, and each had its own individual "footprint" Thanks for sharing.

I WAS in a cast for 9 weeks in 1998 with a badly broken leg and STUCK on one floor of my condo... so I KNOW how you felt with missing your hobby and sewing machine.....LOVE The quilts.

DOTTYMO 12-16-2015 11:26 PM

From experience I know what you have gone through. Don't expect to cut straight away I was amazed at how weak my wrists had become being in plaster at the same time for 6 weeks.
Glad you managed to sew while in plaster and splint and made two beautiful quilts.

You cannot keep a good sewer down. Great effort after being out of action for that length of time.
