Taa-daa!
My first attempt at doing sashiko. They look like bunny slippers. I think I shall have to do another project now that this one is progressing. This is only the top. Quilting to follow! Then a small red binding. I just couldn't wait to share with you though. Fun project for you all to try. Marcella bought our projects at the Shibori Dragon store in Lakewood, Wa. You can visit it at http://www.shiboridragon.com/ |
VERY, very nice!! You did really good hand work on that Yvonne. I've never tried that before. You make me want to give it a go! :)
Too cutee!
that is too cute. I've never seen this before
Beautiful Bunnies :D Good job, I had just recently read a little on this, now I know what it looks like. I see why you wanted to show it off, it is awesome! Can't wait to see it quilted :D :D :D
Very cute bunnies...great job! :D
Excellent, that's the pattern I've got and want to do when I try sashiko. I was thinking of another pillow just for kicks. So tell me what secret sashiko hints are you willing to part with and how much will it cost me? :D
Steve,
I think my only suggestion would be to use an embroidery hoop when doing your sashiko. I tried it both with and without and when I worked without the hoop I tended to pull my stitches up to tight and had gathers. It's a pleasant way to spend an evening while watching re-runs on the tele. I spent a few $$ at Shibori Dragon yesterday and have a new project on it's way. Another strangely adictive craft! Just what I needed!!! |
I am trying to stop with quilting being my last addictive craft. I already do ceramic painting, have wanted to do somemore leather tooling, coppertooling, copper enameling, & macrame. As well as I need to do some just plain sewing and also learn how to use my serger. Just not enough daylight and for some reason I have to take time to eat and sleep. Also the family thinks they have to be fed too!
Deb,
We need to start a new thread where people can list all the crafts they don't get to do any more since quilting took over their lives. I finally cleared out a bunch of craft stuff this summer. I decided if I wanted to do them again I'd go get new and the stores can be my 'storage' system for the time being! Meanwhile, I have a needlepoint project 1/3 done and a crocheted baby blankie 1/2 done. My other problem is that I'm a reader and that sucks the hours right out of the middle of the day! Then there is the flowers and the computer stuff and ... the list goes on and on and ... |
I love your Sashiko Bunnies, they're way cute, have seen sashiko in suares and quarter circles But never before as a semi pictorial, I love it :P are you going to do some more and put them tog? Just what we all need another addictive hobby
Yvonne, that's beautiful! I would love to try that, will have to look at my favorite shop for it!
You do such wonderful, beautiful work....how did the applique go? Sharon |
Oh so cute!!!! Is the border material printed or did you "sashiko" that too??
Any good sashiko books or sites on line you could recommend?
Sharon,
Haven't started the applique. Frozen by the unknown! I just can't make myself start. sigh! Today! I'm going to get it going today! really!!! ShellyQ, This is going to be a little 'stand alone' wall hanging. I have ordered a few more projects to make so I'll be able to hang them together. I just need a wall! Patsy, The border is a batik that I just happened to buy last spring. When I started looking for an appropriate fabric for this project it just leaped out and hollered, "Me! Me! Me!" And it was right! Steve, I've not read any books. I just jumped in and started working on this. Marcella may be able to recommend a book. She's better about researching stuff than I am. And to everyone, Thank you for the sweet words. Most appreciated! Time to go get some applique started! |

http://www.secretsof.com/content/1569 The above sites give you a little history on sashiko. It's basically a form of embroidery using a running stitch. Sylvia Pippen has some gorgeous designs. http://www.sylviapippendesigns.com/patterns.html If you google Sashiko you will find lots and lots of information and many patterns. Have fun! |
Sewww cute :-P
That is so cute! They do look like bunny slippers. Good job.
Yvonne, I use to do macrame, make my children's clothes, garden, ect. until I discovered quilting. Now I mostly do only quilting too. I never thought I'd turn into a quilting junkie but I guess I have.
