Here is what it looks like laid out before sewing. Is it good enough to sew?

I finally tried sewing it and I totally screwed it up... LOL

your pieces look well cut and sized correctly to each other. if you are pleased with the arrangement of colors, then go fer it, dude. :P

all quilters need a few basic tools: good ruler; sharp cutter; good mat; needles; thread; seam ripper (at least i do  ); scissors; tweezers; and a container for scraps.

please take note, henry. self-doubt is nowhere on that list. your number one most important tool? faith in yourself. :P

I can only see one thing.....turn your lower right hand corner square to match the design of the other 3... or vice versa....you have the design going in a different direction in that corner....otherwise...looks good

wow hadn't even noticed that......thanks for pointing that out :)

Now to sew it together, you are on your way to a sampler. You did leave a seam allowance? You are progressing rapidly :D :D

I think it looks good Henry. Be sure and let us see what the finished block looks like all sewed up. What are your plans for it?

Cathe 12-29-2007 09:29 AM

Actually, Henry, you might want to doublecheck the size of those triangles. They look like they might be a little small. Try sewing that block together before you cut any more.

Henry,
You're looking like a quilter here. My only suggestion is to iron your fabric flat before cutting your pieces. Wrinkles can mess up your measurements. (I have tried to short cut this before and believe me, it's not worth it!)
Other than that if you're following the pattern measurements and cutting accurately you should have no problem.

henryparrish76 12-29-2007 10:51 AM

Thanks for the good advice Yvonne :)

henryparrish76 12-29-2007 10:53 AM

Cathe,

You're right the top triangle was too small. I had to redo it. Thanks for catching that before i sewed together.

Looking good Henry! Isn't everyone wonderful? So helpful and informative! I've learned so much! You couldn't take a class with nicer teachers! How did it sew up? Did ya have fun?!! Make more!

henryparrish76 12-29-2007 05:31 PM

I havent sewed it yet. I have been reading all afternoon. I am on my 6th book in 5 days. I dont get to read as much when i am working. So whenever I am on break from work, I read like a mad man.

henryparrish76 12-30-2007 12:26 AM

I screwed it up big time, but oh well. Part of the learning process;)

Celeste 12-30-2007 01:20 AM

Great positive attitude! Finish you're reading (I love to read too!) then get back to the sewing! We're all loving this!

Yvonne 12-30-2007 09:12 AM

Henry,
Un-sewing is part of the process. If you don't have a seam ripper get one. It is extremely valuable! Un-sewing is also called 'frogging!' "Rip-it, rip-it, rip-it!" and you can fix most anything at all!
Your other option is to call it a design decision! "You did that way on purpose!" Oh, yes. No messing up big time in quilting. They're just design options!

henryparrish76 12-30-2007 10:39 AM

I like that....lol:)

henryparrish76 12-30-2007 02:57 PM

I have finished the reading now. Now I am about to go out to Dinner. The weather here has been so dreary all day and I am feeling a lil bummed. SO I am getting out of the house for a bit.

Henry..you need to make mistakes in quilting. That's where we learn some of our best lessons. Your block is going to be nice, so make sure to show off the quilt when it is done.
