Ok, here he is, my scarecrow. He's been hanging out on my felt wall for 2 years now and needs to be finished. but just couldn't decide what to do with him. After seeing all the beautiful chickens. I think maybe that is what he needs. I'm not big on appplique, but love all of you're chicks Please tell me what to do! :?:

key4unc 04-17-2009 02:25 AM

How about an ear of corn on the ground beside the scarecrow. Are you going to put a border on this one?

Skeat 04-17-2009 02:56 AM

He is a cute guy!! I thought corn too first...then if you aren't 'corn crazy' then I'd suggest fall leaves all the way around:)He will look great no matter what you decide.:)Skeat

Evelynquilts 04-17-2009 03:28 AM

I thought a few ears of corn , or some leaves...

Mousie 04-17-2009 04:18 AM

hey, Ninnie, ya been keeping a man on the wall for two years and finally gonna throw him a few chicks?...what to do?...I'd move outa his way, lol!!! (and make him put that pitchfork down!)

Mamagus 04-17-2009 04:18 AM

Oh! Nice Scarecrow!

When we made paper scarecrows each fall in my kindergarten class, the scarecrows weren't done until they had patches on their clothing. A red knee patch? You could applique a few little yellow chicks around his feet to help him fit in.

Bevanger 04-17-2009 04:21 AM

He's so cute.....great job!

Mousie 04-17-2009 04:22 AM

now the corn idea, with the chicks...they could both jump on that...and about applique, you know you don't have to do it by hand. You could use Steam a seam2...it's adhesive on both sides, then machine the edges.
My mom used to use fabric paint on edges of appliques to seal them.
I haven't had enough practice for that, but not all that keen on the look, unless it's...lol...going on a wall!!!

pocoellie 04-17-2009 04:25 AM

That's so cute!!!

Ninnie 04-17-2009 04:25 AM

Thanks for all the great ideas!! I never thought of corn, QC , You are right he was lonely! Maybe a girl scarecrow? 2 years is a long time to do without. I guess I need to check in and see what time it is!

Debbie1 04-17-2009 05:59 AM

Great Scarecrow! I'd go with something at his feet, chicks, corn or leaves.

Sharon M 04-17-2009 06:34 AM

Love the scarecrow, he's a cutie! Great job
I can remember seeing at some time in JoAnn Fabric some material with Indian corn on it or google corn fabric am sure there is some on ebay. Fuse that around his feet and some fall leaves too a couple of little chicks....and as someone else suggested patched knees...all self respecting scarecrows wear patches  Also if it is going to be used as a wall hanging you could attach some raffia to the corn for the husk part. Can't wait so see how you finsih him up. :D

RedGarnet222 04-17-2009 09:15 AM

I think that he would look good with some straw coming out of his sleaves and a hole in his jeans (applique maybe?) And he needs a pumpkin or something in his field to guard.

He is really adorable and I know you are going to have fun embellishing it up for fall.

amma 04-17-2009 10:32 AM

Love your Scarecrow!!!!! So many good suggestions, I can't wait to see what you decide to do!!!! :D :D :D

Ninnie 04-17-2009 10:49 AM

oh I wouldn't be a nuthin
My head all full of stuffin,...

Ninnie 04-17-2009 11:03 AM

NOW, I love the wizard of Oz..but there was a time, that witch really scared me. You'd think I wouldn't have watched it, but every year, right as rain, I did. I liked all the characters, but thought as a child, I was like the cowardly lion, now, more like the tin man, lol!
So glad you posted him, and he's going to get some much needed attention. Grandma always said, "two heads are better than one." and in this case, many

OH MY! QC I choked on my drink! Then I was laughing so hard my DS looked at me like I was crazy!. Ninnie DO throw that poor guy some chicks and then give him some private time but not 2 yrs! Those chicks will be multiplying like rabbits!

Oh BTW QC those flying monkeys gave me nightmares. The witch not so much, she melts after all.

*clicks heels together* There's no place like home. Now off to bed I go.
