I've been teaching my DGD (8 yrs old) to sew & she wanted to make something for her little cousin. We saw one of these as a quilt shop decoration and both loved the idea. So I went back & counted the squares & made a pattern for her. We used 2-1/2" squares from stash. With Christmas projects beginning, I thought some of you may like the idea for easy gifts. They can be decorated with fancy collars and embroidered eyes. (No button eyes for the little ones, tho, if they are young enough to chew on them!) Here are some of the ones we made.

No I haven't. Would love a cute cat pillow, but most of the ones I saw were just cut-out panels. If you see a quilted one, let me know.

emmamarie 09-11-2011 05:13 PM

love it

gmaybee 09-11-2011 05:23 PM

Very cute.

Here is a really cute cat pattern. You could use squares. http://www.craftandfabriclinks.com/c...g_pattern.html

carolaug 09-11-2011 05:38 PM

Here is another free cat pattern http://www.craftandfabriclinks.com/c...s/xmascat.html

Very cute, I looked at the pattern. It would be cute for a baby shower if you used scraps from the baby quilt you also make!

What a fine project. I especially like the B$W one.

I bought the cat pattern at a guild meeting. It's called, My Cat, Cali (a depression era toy) and was designed by Kathleen Ackley. Here's a website:
http://www.bykate.com/bykate-products.html

The horse is almost like the scotty, but doesn't have the ears and has longer (thinner, too) I think legs. A friend gave my granddaughter one and I added a yarn mane and tail and felt ears. The woman who made it heads a church group that makes quilts and the horses are to comfort kids. (My granddaughter who is now 10 has way too many stuffed toys, but when we went to Disney World this summer, the horse was packed!)

blueangel 09-11-2011 06:42 PM

Very cute

Bonbonary 09-11-2011 06:46 PM

I can definitely see the horse working with yarn mane and tail. That would be a cute idea.

heather1949 09-12-2011 02:25 AM

They are adorable I love them all.

DebsShelties 09-12-2011 02:26 AM

Too cute

I like the depression cat pattern. It would be fast and easy. I think I could draw that one on legal size paper. I am so glad I asked for help. The patterns have to be just the front and back, no other things but the outline of the front and back. I like the idea of coloring book pages. Thanks to all of you for your kindness in helping me.

Love these! Reminds me of the one that my grandma made me waaaayyyy back in the day! It would have been about 45 years ago! The one she made me looked just like these...except that instead of having one block between the legs...I think there were 2-3...this way it was also used as a neck rest! Anyway, I used it for years and years. Sadly, it wore out and I no longer have it...but I sure have fond memories of it! :-)

klarina 09-12-2011 11:33 AM

love them. I think the sewing/quilting bug has bitten her.

I like the idea of adding 2-3 squares in the middle so you could use it as a neck rest. The kids always look so uncomfortable when they fall asleep in their car seats. Maybe that would help.

marymm 09-12-2011 01:19 PM

Actuallyt, I believe the horse is made so it can be used around the neck. the cat tail is also made of squares and crooks up at end. it has an added eat.

I just finished cutting up my material for the cat http://www.craftandfabriclinks.com/c...anbag_pg2.html and I cut it all wrong. Thats what I get for only printing out the pattern and not the directions...oh well I will recut tomorrow. This is a great way to use up material that I don't really have any plans to use in my quilts. I also may use left over material from my quilts and give them as gifts with my quilts.

Sorry you have to cut again, but I hope you'll post pics when you get it done.

Hate when that happens. Maybe it will perk up with stuffing.
