I just had to show a picture I was sent today. My daughter is working on this scrap top from fabric she recieved in the mail.

I told her if she had her top done by the time I get to go see her, that I would teach her how to quilt. Told her I would get her batting, backing, thread, needles and some kind of hoop.

I can't wait to see it finished.

I see she got a little off on one of her seams on the bottom square. I'm going to see if she wants to redo that squares or just leave it. I'll get her a seam ripper too!

I'll show you a picture of the top when it's done. And of it quilted when that is done also.

Thank you ladies!

KimmieH 09-16-2011 06:42 PM

she is off to a great start!!

HummerGardenCrafts 09-16-2011 06:45 PM

Yes she is Kimmie! And I'm thrilled she is back into sewing.
It's giving her motivation to keep busy.
She was so thrilled that I liked her top. She said Mommy I'm going to work on it tomorrow soon as I get the two girls to school. I'm just wondering about the third one she couldn't get in school this year down there. What she does while Mommy sews. I'll have to ask her that question?

amyjo 09-16-2011 07:01 PM

great job. tell her to keep it up

erstan947 09-16-2011 07:03 PM

Love her pattern choice. Great start:)

HummerGardenCrafts 09-16-2011 07:09 PM

Thank you ladies! I'm so pleased with what she is doing. She wants to join QB. But she has to wait until she gets internet. Whenever that might be. If she gets a chance, she'll join from her brothers computer.

Who knows, I may end up having them back here with me. I told her she had a home to come back to. But my goodness! What on earth would I do with all my stuff in my Quilt House?

I dont think I have a quilt that is not a little off somewhere. I said my Quilting name is Crooked Line Quilting. Be careful if you have a quilt with all straight lines it is a forgery not one of mine LOL.

Nice

That's me too Kim T. Mine are never perfect. Sometimes I will go back and take things apart and refix it. Especially if it's for sale. But my own, I don't care if it's off a bit. I'm not perfect and I don't pretend to be. giggle

I love cobblestones! She's doing great so far! Tell her to keep going -- it's getting good!! :-D :-D :-D ;)

Looks like she is off to a good start. I would not mention the line being off if she doesn't. Sometime having to take things apart discourages us from doing any more. Or at least I get in those moods sometimes.

I love scrappy quilts. She's off to a good start.

katyquilter 09-17-2011 04:08 AM

I also love scrappy quilts. I'm sure she'll finish it by the time you visit.

Love the fact that someone is learning to quilt. If there is anything I would like to pass on to my girls it would be quilting. the heirlooms created.
Enjoy

She's off to a wonderful start. I recognize a couple of those fabrics! Glad she's able to use them!

HummerGardenCrafts 09-25-2011 06:35 PM

Oh I knew some of you would recognize some fabrics!
She is really moving along. I'm really proud of her. She's trying to hard to have it done by the time I get there. I know she will be disappointed if she can't get it done.

I posted a second picture of her top. I really like that pattern. And it will be easy for her to quilt on also. Straight lines to start out with.

I'm hopeing my granddaughter will pick it up also. I bought a small sewing machine for Christmas last year. So hopeing my daughter will start showing her how to sew now.

Oh I know!!! I'm thinking I might even have to make some of those myself. They do look good in scraps.

HummerGardenCrafts 09-30-2011 06:54 PM

Shipped out a big flat rate box to my daughter today. I know she's going to be thrilled. Had to put the granddaughters each a pad of paper in there. Also sent her some straight pins. And a JoAnn's tote bag. I never get enough of those tote bags for myself. I'm forever putting started projects in them. And having something in those bags ready to grab to take with me.Never know when you will have to set for awhile. I hate wasteing time.
Oh and I sent her one of my mice pincushions I make. I knew she didn't have one.
I can't wait to see how big her top is now.

debbieumphress 09-30-2011 07:01 PM

How fun. ... a mother-daughter quilt. Hope she finishes it before you visit. And you are nice to provide her with the batting and stuff.

deanneellen 09-30-2011 07:23 PM

I'm sorry, but while I was in TN with my kids I forgot to get a pic of her and her top. She's going to get my granddaughter to take one and send it to me. Let me tell you, that quilt top is a good king size. I think when she got started, she forgot it had to be quilted. giggle

I did show her how to put the sandwich together. And I fixed her a sample to practice on. I did take pics of that. And I'm amazed. This girl hasn't quilted ever. She's doing a good job. But now this was just by hand and without a hoop or anything. I think she's doing a wonderful job!!!!

I did tell her that the stitches she's doing may change when she goes to working on a hoop. I hope they don't. She has great stitches.
